OzHarvest is a leading food rescue organisation on a mission to ‘Nourish our Country’ by stopping good food from going to waste and delivering it to charities that help feed people in need. Through our education programs and our advocacy work, we hope to inspire others to change their behaviour and help reach the national target of halving food waste by 2030.
About The Role:
Join OzHarvest as a Market Manager and lead the day-to-day operations of the OzHarvest Waterloo Market. This role is central to supporting vulnerable people with nutritious food and fostering a strong sense of community connection. You will oversee the smooth running of the market, manage a diverse team of volunteers, and ensure the space remains safe, welcoming, and sustainable.
We are currently hiring two roles:
- Temporary Part-Time Contract (3 months) – November 4, 2025 - January 30, 2026.
- Ongoing Casual Position – Flexible hours available.

Key Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Management: Lead 20–30 volunteers each day, oversee induction, training and wellbeing, provide shift briefings and debriefs, and act as a role model for OzHarvest’s values.
- Community Member Care: Provide exceptional support to diverse community members and collaborate with the Community Worker to manage challenging situations with empathy and respect.
- Operations Management: Manage daily operations including deliveries, stock, food safety, hygiene and security protocols, and respond effectively to incidents.
- Program Development: Contribute to the vision and strategic direction of the Market and support its growth as a sustainable service
To be successful for this role, you will need:
- A deep understanding of OzHarvest’s mission and principles.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with diverse teams, particularly volunteers.
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and time management skills.
- Ability to engage, coach and motivate individuals in a fast-moving environment.
- Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and resilience in challenging situations.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Qualifications: Current Police Check, First Aid Certificate, Food Safety Certificate (training provided by OzHarvest). Mental Health First Aid and a background in community development or social work are desirable
