Join Lancashire County Council – Make a Difference in Infection Prevention and Control
Lancashire County Council (LCC) is the fourth largest local authority in England, serving a diverse mix of urban and rural communities across a vast geographic area. Our work is wide-ranging and complex, but our mission is simple: to serve the people of Lancashire by delivering the services they need in the most efficient and innovative way possible.
The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team sits within the Public Health, Wellbeing and Communities Directorate and plays a vital role in supporting all areas of the council to minimise infection risks. The team works closely with commissioners to ensure health and social care providers comply with the Code of Practice for infection prevention. This includes over 400 adult residential homes, children’s residential homes, mainstream and special schools, as well as a wide range of domiciliary and supported living services.
We offer a flexible working environment, including a hybrid model of office and home-based work. While flexible hours are encouraged, some shifts from 09:00 to 17:00 (Monday to Friday) are required on a rota basis to ensure service coverage. Ideally, the successful candidate will work Wednesday to Friday to meet current business needs, though this can be discussed further.
As an Infection Prevention Nurse, your key responsibilities will include:
- Applying clinical expertise in infection prevention and control to promote and embed evidence-based practices across services.
- Supporting the delivery of the IPC plan through activities such as audits and advising on best practice.
- Designing and delivering engaging training sessions and presentations to a range of audiences.
- Providing expert advice to social care professionals on the prevention and management of a range of infections.
- Contributing to project planning and risk management strategies to enhance infection control measures.
- Actively participating in Post Infection Reviews as required.
- Assisting health and social care providers, as well as other settings, in managing outbreaks effectively.
- Working independently, managing your own diary, and prioritising your workload to meet service demands.
What We’Re Looking For:
We’re seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse who is passionate about infection prevention and control and eager to make a meaningful impact across health and social care settings.
- You must be currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse, with a minimum of one year’s post-registration experience.
- A genuine interest in infection prevention and control is essential, along with a commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable populations.
- While prior experience in IPC is desirable, it is not essential. This is a developmental role, and you will receive dedicated support and mentorship from Senior Infection Prevention Nurses to help you grow within the speciality.
- The role requires an Enhanced DBS check due to work involving both adults and children.
This is an essential car user position. The role involves visits to various settings across the Lancashire footprint with mileage being reimbursed.
Information:
By joining Lancashire County Council, you can shape the career path that is right for you with the opportunity to gain personal and professional qualifications, coaching and mentoring – Lancashire County Council really is the place where you can have the career you've always wanted.
In return for your passion and expertise, we also offer a generous benefits package which includes:
- A competitive salary and Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions and optional Additional Voluntary Contributions.
- A great holiday entitlement of 26 days annual leave, which rises with length of service. You will also be entitled to 8 Bank Holidays, 2 additional statutory Bank Holidays, and have the option to buy additional leave each year.
- Our staff discount scheme in partnership with Vivup allowing you to access discounts with a range of UK retailers, saving on everything from weekly food shops to white goods and cars.
