Job Description:

The Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP) in the Department of Geography and Anthropology at Louisiana State University seeks to fill an Assistant Professor-Research position.  The primary responsibility of an Assistant Professor–Research (non-tenure track) is conducting and leading research. This includes maintaining an active research agenda/portfolio, producing regular peer-reviewed publications, and securing external or internal funding to support research initiatives. The role involves designing and implementing novel research projects, managing research teams (composed of both undergraduate, graduate, faculty, and external partners), mentoring students and collaborating with faculty, external partners, and funding agencies. This role may participate in departmental (e.g., teaching), college, and university service activities commensurate with rank, as well as present findings at conferences and contribute to the broader scientific community.

Job Responsibilities:

50% - Maintain an active research agenda with regular publications, secure external funding to support research activities. Apply advanced scientific procedures, knowledge, and skills in the execution of research. Investigate fields of research that may serve as a research focus area in the future. Conducting applied research that can be used in decision-making.

30% - Lead and or co-lead the management of a research teams on which the candidate is the PI or CO-PI. Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the daily operation of the team. Responsible for maintaining the quality of research and ensuring the timely delivery of research results. Investigate possible collaboration with other researchers and research teams.

10% - Develop innovative research problem statements and research proposals and submit to grant/contract agencies. Initiate and develop contacts with grant/contract agencies and funding sources. Investigate opportunities for collaborating with other research groups to develop joint research proposals.

5% - Disseminate research results in journals, conference proceedings, and by means of presentations at local, national, and international conferences.

5% - Supervise Graduate Research Assistants in the execution of their research and assist in their training. Mentor undergraduate student researchers, and collaborate with graduate students on research projects. Assistance in training includes guidance in the research process, instruction and assistance in the execution of technical and analytical procedures required in the research, and help in documenting the results in a report or publication. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Geography, Climate Science, Meteorology or related field

Years of experience: 5 years of postdoctoral research experience

Specific experience: Publishing manuscript, leading research and guiding a research team, working with stakeholders, and writing grant proposals.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Geography, Climate Science, Meteorology or related field

Specific Experience: Publishing manuscripts in leading weather/climate journals, directing research and advising undergraduate/graduate students, working with stakeholders, and writing grant proposals.
