The Financial Analyst II reports to Seaspan’s Finance Department through the Finance Manager and is primarily responsible primarily accountable for the preparation of monthly financial and management reports, financial analyses, and the AFE process and reporting. This role also assists in the preparation of the annual budget and forecasting. Creation and maintenance of Business Intelligence and excel reporting will also be an important aspect to this role.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.
What You’Ll Do
- Complete month-end duties ranging from Journal Entries, Billing/AR, project reviews, GL reconciliations, monthly working papers.
- Liaises with appropriate team for capital expenditure proposals including the review of business cases, validation of financial models, periodic review of project spending to ensure current financial information is built into forecasts and that budgets are not exceeded, and compliance with internal policies.
- Maintains the fixed asset listing and ensures it is complete and accurate.
- Liaises with the tax department regarding appropriate tax treatment.
- Preparation of year-end working papers and analysis to support the audit process.
- Support AP invoice coding.
- Supports the oversight of both hourly and salary staff timekeeping and reporting.
- Supports and assists the process of operational leases including review of lease/license paperwork, confirm expense coding, and financial forecasting and impacts.
- Assists in the development of the annual budget, forecasting and long-range financial projections.
- Liaises with operations to ensure costs are accurately budgeted.
- Assists with the billing/AR and cash forecasting process required for divisional reporting.
- Creation of Business Intelligence reports and excel reporting to improve operational and financial understanding.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
What You’Ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (Business and Finance preferred).
- Charted Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated ability in a business/financial analysis role in a complex and dynamic environment.
- Capital expenditure experience is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of analysis from a qualitative and quantitative perspective including discounted cash flow, net present value and internal rate of return calculations.
- Analytical and planning skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communications, including the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
- Attention to detail, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Skilled at asking probing questions to deepen understanding of business issues.
- Sophisticated digital literacy (MS Excel modelling and data analysis, PowerPoint, SAP BI/Power BI query reports and dashboards). Database management skills are desirable.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
