We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Bloodworks Laboratory Logistics and Inventory Specialist I. In this role, you will function as a member of the Cord Blood Program and Cell Therapy Laboratory (CTP) team by performing logistical tasks supporting the collection, receipt, processing, storage, and distribution of Hematopoietic cells (HPC) Cord Blood and Stem Cell products. This position supports product inventory, including planning and administering product storage protocols, transferring frozen products, and distributing product samples for testing and transplant purposes. It also supports the maintenance of appropriate stock levels of reagents and materials for laboratory activities.

Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: As a Laboratory Technical Specialist I:
• Perform in a supervised role in the development and implementation of new technologies for the processing of hematopoietic cells (HPCs) and in the improvements to current techniques.
◦ Perform value assessments of current and new techniques. Assessments may include data reviews, failure analyses, cost analyses, facilities, and labor assessments.
◦ Assist in the sourcing of new techniques and equipment via literature reviews and external vendor contact.
◦ Author and review new and existing HPC processing and testing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with direct oversight from Laboratory management and senior staff.
◦ Author, perform, and review validations and qualifications with direct oversight from Laboratory management and senior staff.
• Perform and monitor quality control and preventative maintenance of laboratory facilities, instrumentation, and equipment.
◦ Communicate with external vendors for the performance of required service or repair and resolution of equipment problems.
◦ Communicate with internal facilities staff for the performance of required service, repairs, and resolution of problems.
◦ Conduct reviews of equipment logbooks and facilities monitoring records.
• Provide training to team members in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and in the processing and testing of HPC products.
• Perform as a team member in the processing and testing of HPC products, including Cord Blood Units (CBU)
and Stem Cell products.
◦ CBU evaluation, processing, testing, and data review.
◦ HPC(A) processing, testing, and data review.
• Perform routine compilation and review of processing, testing, and quality control data (chart review).
• Perform data entry and retrieval using internal and external electronic databases.
• Create, modify, maintain, and transmit electronic records in a controlled and approved manner.
• Author processing and testing data reports for department management.
• Participate in the review and remediation of deviations and the development and implementation of corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
• Participate in regulatory reviews, audits, and submissions.
◦ Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for laboratory equipment and select processing and testing procedures.
◦ Prepare reports, responses, and action plans in response to regulatory submissions and audits.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities for HPC processing, testing, and equipment and facilities monitoring, including REES temperature monitoring.
• Participate in research and clinical trials as appropriate.
• Perform all responsibilities per PSBC and CBS compliance, Safety, and other policies and standards as written.
◦ Utilize knowledge of AABB, FDA, FACT, OSHA, and other pertinent regulatory agency requirements.
• Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as written.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
GENERAL:
• Support and promote the values and mission of Bloodworks.
• Participate in Bloodworks-mandated emergency drills.
• Maintain confidentiality of donor and patient medical, financial, and personal information in accordance with HIPAA and National Marrow Donation Program (NMDP) confidentiality guidelines.
OTHER:
• Upon acquisition of skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to perform principal responsibilities independently, the employee may be eligible for promotion to the Laboratory Technical Specialist II position. Other considerations include specialized certification or training in activities that support additional laboratory services and programs, such as Quality, Lean Six Sigma, and Performance Excellence.

• AABB (agency formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks)
• Must qualify as Testing Personnel, Moderate Complexity Testing, under CLIA personnel requirements found in Subpart M of the Code of Federal Regulations.
• Bachelor of Science in medical technology, laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in cellular therapy, biotech, scientific laboratory, or related field required.
• Experience in the purchase, operation, validation, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment (IQ, OQ, PQ) preferred.
• Project management and staff training experience (preferred).
Specific job skills include, but are not limited to:
• Demonstrated familiarity with sterile technique, cell processing and cryopreservation, flow cytometry, microbiology, and safe handling of potentially infectious human blood/tissues.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cGMPs, cGTPs, and principles of Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
• Working knowledge of AABB, NMDP, and blood banking standards preferred.
• Significant manual dexterity is required to operate various instruments, pipette, and perform the necessary data entry.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the management team, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, action plans, business correspondence, policies, and procedures.
