Overview
Performs routine and special laboratory specimen collections, handling and distributions according to established protocols and standard operating procedures assuring collection of the appropriate specimen in correct container with appropriate labeling. Provides instructions for specimen collection procedures and instructions to patients, nurses, physicians, etc.
What you will do
- Collaborates with physicians and office staff, nursing and clinical staff to provide for the specialized needs of the patients.
- Performs routine and specimen collections according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. Complies with laboratory QA/QI program
- Explains the specimen collection procedures and provides instructions to patients, nurses, and physicians.
- Maintains a safe environment by complying with RHS policies/procedures/regulatory requirements that support the National Patient Safety Goals and Quality Initiatives. Recognizes and reports variances and provides resolutions. Uses appropriate protective equipment, body mechanics and follows safety guidelines and procedures; identifies and acts to resolve variances or suspected non-compliance to management.
- Performs patient EKG.
- Maintains proper inventory in the department and keeps appropriate stock levels in collection basket.
Qualificationseducation
- Program Graduate, Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant (Required)
Experience
- 1 year Experience in blood and specimen collecting (Preferred)
Licenses And Certifications
- ASCP or equivalent certification (Preferred)
