Job Summary:

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has a 1.0 FTE faculty position available at the rank of Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of full-time transplant faculty, this position provides outpatient medical services at the University of Colorado Hospital primarily through telehealth and in the Transplant Clinic when needed. The primary function of the position includes providing addiction and psychiatric care for patients undergoing solid-organ transplant. This would include medical management of alcohol use disorder, substance use disorder and treatment of anxiety and depression.

Clinical Duties Include:

  • Discussions with pre-transplant and post-transplant patients regarding information about psychiatric and addiction concerns. 
  • Reviewing medical records to determine appropriate for clinic.
  • Review outside diagnostic tests and documentation as needed
  • Prescribing medications as needed
  • Speaking with referring physicians regarding patient management both pre- and post-transplant
  • Support existing transplant social workers and psychiatry teams
  • Establish shared protocols with the inpatient addition medicine team and members of the transplant center to ensure coordination of care
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the addiction medicine team to review difficult cases and participate in ongoing education
  • Independently seeing patients in follow up as needed.
  • Contacting referring physicians /PCP for any other medical issues that may have been discovered.
  • Tracking patient outcomes/data, work with transplant center leadership to identify future needs

Typical Working Conditions:  This is a mostly virtual clinic-based practice.  When in clinic, there may be exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to the clinical environment.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications for NP
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • DNP required from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure by a national professional organization.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Colorado. Ultimately licensure in New Mexico and Wyoming will be required.
  • Admission to the Advanced Practice Registry of the Colorado Board of Nursing.
  • Prescriptive authority required.
  • Greater than 5 year of transplant/hepatology experience as NP required.
  • BLS is required. ACLS is not required.

*A master’s degree and years of equivalent experience may be substituted for a DNP.

 Minimum qualifications for PA

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Allowed to practice in the state of Colorado. Ultimately will also require New Mexico and Wyoming licensure.
  • Prescriptive authority
  • Greater than 5 years transplant/hepatology experience as a PA required.
  • BLS is required. ACLS is not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records, such Epic

Performance Requirements:

  1. Knowledge of the professional medical practice to give and evaluate patient care in the transplant a clinic. 
  2. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. 
  3. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. 
  4. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. 
  5. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine to provide on-going patient care. 
  6. Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings. 
  7. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. 
  8. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. 
  9. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and their family members, medical staff, residents, fellows, medical students, and the public. 
  10. Ability to maintain quality control standards. 
  11. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. 
  12. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. 
  13. Ability to communicate clearly as an integral member of a team.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$121,000 - $137,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
