Role purpose and overview

As a Senior Reporter on the Home News team, you’ll be responsible for covering a variety of stories to assist the Telegraph news team in its day-to-day coverage both in print and online.

At this level, we set the expectation that you will generate exclusive stories and progress to producing agenda-setting journalism that leads the app, website, and front page.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report on breaking news stories.
  • Generate and seek out original and exclusive stories that set the agenda.
  • Write high-quality news pieces across a variety of subject areas.
  • Produce stories capable of leading the app, website, and front page.
  • Present compelling story ideas to the News Editor.
  • Work seamlessly across different publishing platforms, including print and digital.
  • Maximise digital engagement and contribute towards the subscription strategy.

Key Skills

Essential

  • Experience of working in news at regional, national or international level.
  • Proven track record in breaking news stories.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with and experience of digital storytelling techniques.
  • Strong working understanding of social media channels.
  • Willingness to travel at short notice.
