Faculty Affairs Manager - (25005347)

Description

 

In partnership with the Tippie College of Business academic departments, the Dean’s Office, and Human Resources, this position will represent the interests of the Tippie College of Business by actively serving as a leader, consultant, resource, and departmental authority on academic policies and process related to the faculty life cycle processes such as onboarding faculty and promotion/tenure review. The person in this position will serve as liaison to the Provost’s office, collegiate departments, and will provide excellent customer service to the college and other entities, creating a welcoming and respectful environment. Supervision is received from the Senior Associate Dean.

Job Duties and Tasks

  • Coordinates and manages administrative procedures associated with all faculty affairs within the Tippie College of Business. 
  • Coordinates promotion and tenure (P & T) procedures including communication with departments, coordinating with external references, scheduling meetings, and maintenance of records. Interprets and monitors complex policies that govern faculty processes. Receives final P & T list from the Provost’s Office and coordinates communication from the Dean to faculty and departments.
  • Responds to questions from faculty, DEOs, and administrative staff that require interpretation.
  • Serves as a reference and resource for the Dean’s Office on Collegiate and University policies related to faculty recruitment, types of faculty appointments, and faculty review, including communicating changes and new policies to department chairs and administrative staff. 
  • Works with the Senior Associate Dean to provide new faculty orientation on an annual basis. 
  • Assists the Senior Associate Dean on implementing programming for the new faculty cohort, including attending sessions, preparing materials, presenting training, and communicating with new faculty.
  • Provides guidance, and/or reviews documentation for policies and procedures within the college.
  • Conducts independent research and obtains reports to facilitate strategic initiatives. 
  • Creates and distributes documentation to departmental administrators on updates to policies and procedures. Coordinates compliance of those policies.
  • Maintains accurate faculty salary spreadsheets to track base salaries, as well as admin stipends, chairs, professorships, and fellowships.

Salary: $60,000-$80,000

Qualifications

 

Education Requirement

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, human resources or related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and education.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge and ability to carry out office administration tasks effectively and efficiently in support of staff, team, and department, typically for a minimum of 5-7 years.
  • Knowledge of administrative processes and associated operating requirements and experience working with a customer service focus; ability to apply this knowledge to various situations.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and build strong professional working relationships with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with effective relationship building skills that develop the ability to clearly communicate and effectively work with various faculty, staff, and student population in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Extensive knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use desktop office support tools (e.g., presentation software, spreadsheets, HR information systems, Office 365 applications such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams).
  • Demonstrated experience with tenure-track faculty policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, business administration, public administration, human resources, or related field.
  • Experience with project planning and project management.
  • Working knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
