Job Duties

Virginia Energy is seeking a Senior Human Resources Business Partner to serve as a strategic and tactical advisor to senior leadership and staff. This role plays a key part in fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment that supports our mission.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in performance management, employee relations, compensation, staffing trends, and HR best practices. A strong understanding of HR policies, programs, procedures, and applicable regulations is essential, along with excellent initiative, follow-through, feedback, and decision-making skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead expert, advising leaders, facilitating difficult conversations, conducting investigations, preparing summaries and recommendations, managing terminations, and developing performance improvement plans. 
  • Lead and support projects in areas such as performance management, workforce planning, compensation planning, and career development.
  • Promote a positive, engaging, and inclusive workplace through transparent communication and a strong sense of belonging.
  • Provide guidance to leadership and staff on HR policies and best practices.
  • Use the Cardinal System to process HR transactions, run queries, and generate reports to support HR initiatives and meet DHRM requirements.Virginia Energy’s mission is to lead the Commonwealth toward a safe, reliable, and responsible energy future with a greater emphasis on renewable energy programs and economic development. Minimum Qualifications

  • • Comprehensive experience in multiple aspects of HR to include performance management, employee relations, pay and staffing trends and best practices
  • • Experience with classification and compensation especially in state or local government.
  • • Experience with employee relations from complaint to resolution
  • • Knowledge of human resources trends and best practices
  • • High level knowledge of benefits to support employees with simple benefits questions.
  • • Extensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws and their practical application in a public work environment
  • • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office software and database management systems
  • • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • • Strong planning and organization skills
  • • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • • Interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • •Experience gathering and summarizing data for reports, finding solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritizing work
  • • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines
  • • Excellent customer service and relationship building skills
  • • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
  • • Ability to work on a team that delivers a high-availability level of service
  • • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • • Experience working with state software systems such as Cardinal/PeopleSoft, PageUp, VRS Navigator, etc.

Additional Considerations

• HR related certification preferred (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR)
