The Senior Credit Officer and Portfolio Manager will oversee and manage the member business lending credit portfolio. They will be responsible for underwriting and analyzing business and personal financial statements for new and existing members. This position will work closely with the Loan Officers to align timing expectations and workflow of lending activities. Additionally, this position will be responsible for covenant monitoring and ensuring accurate information is presented as this information is heavily relied upon for risk rating and portfolio analysis. What You Will Do:

  • Leads the business lending and underwriting function with a focus on operational excellence, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the full lending lifecycle.
  • Shapes a strong and consistent credit culture by streamlining processes, promoting sound decision-making, and aligning team practices with organizational values and strategic goals.
  • Builds and empowers a high-performing team, providing coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities that foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement with a strong understanding of operational and documentation standards.
  • Implements a standardized approach to underwriting encompassing proper credit structure, assignment of risk rating, competitive pricing, and identification of exceptions.
  • Promotes a positive departmental image projecting an integrated service to the Credit Union’s lending staff.
  • Maintains and monitors the risks of the commercial lending portfolio in alignment with Member Business Lending Committee (MBLC) and SCU’s expectations.
  • Develops and monitors credit policies and procedures to administer the safety and soundness of the department.
  • Ensures timely and accurate work as well as compliance to loan policies, procedure and regulatory requirements as it relates to all commercial lending activity.
  • Approves loans within lending limits, making recommendations and supporting loans in alignment with SCU’s credit culture, management of effective workflow processes, overseeing annual review and risk rating process.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of SCU’s business services and products; maintains general knowledge of the business services industry, including maintaining in-depth knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Effectively manage loan pipeline and delivery, provides timely and accurate information to borrowers and SCU staff, achieves department project and production goals.
  • Liaison for internal and external credit related audits.
  • Responsible for preparing credit memorandum for loan requests, extensions and modifications together with supporting documents to present business loans for approval.
  • Evaluate the credit worthiness of the borrower/guarantor, the collateral securing the proposed loan, and adequacy of the loan structure.
  • Profile the deal against SCU’s Underwriting Standards and develop the loan structure accordingly.
  • Responsible for the ongoing monitoring of real estate portfolio. Ensure the portfolio’s healthy performance through ongoing analysis of the subject property and the sponsors to identify any financial or collateral deterioration.
  • Confirm all covenant compliance and appropriate risk rating. Identify weaknesses warranting a risk rating downgrade or strengths justifying an upgrade.
  • Responsible for participating out MBL loans by working closely with loan participants and loan servicers. Responsibilities include but not limited to, providing information to the participants as well as on-going monitoring.
  • Work closely with the support staff and Loan Officers to ensure annual financials are received in a timely manner.
  • Perform all annual term loan reviews, property reviews and property inspections.
  • Be a resource for others in the organization in screening potential opportunities as they present themselves.
  • Engages and partners with internal and external stakeholders in a manner that reflects our vision, mission, and values.
  • Consistently demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and organizational skills that contribute to a high functioning team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration with emphasis in management, accounting, finance, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Six (6)+ years of lending experience with a thorough understanding of credit union credit policies and in-depth knowledge of credit analysis, structuring and pricing.
  • Three (3) years as a people manager.
  • Advanced ability to analyze personal and business financial statements.
  • Knowledgeable in regulatory, policy and compliance issues pertaining to the business services industry. Thorough knowledge of all business services, products, and programs.
  • Superior analytical skills necessary to evaluate credit requests and determine trends in a given marketplace.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Financial Institution background.
  • Credit Administration / Underwriting experience.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a hybrid role with work performed remotely as well as in an office and/or branch environment in the Greater Seattle area of Washington State.
  • Team members may attend special off-hour meetings and seminars.
  • The nature of work may include prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Compensation is based on the candidate's geographical location, calculated based on an adjustment factor from Seattle area market compensation.
