Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Te Kura Mātai Taiao | School of Environment is interested in a candidate with a specific teaching and learning focus on environmental data analysis, modelling, and Geographical Information Science. The appointee will be expected to coordinate and deliver courses in these areas and support students from diverse backgrounds and of varied abilities to develop technical and analytical skills. The role will also involve contributing to teaching elsewhere in our undergraduate programme and ensuring students gain practical experience with spatial analysis, data processing, and modelling. The role will include course coordination, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment design, lecturing, teaching tutorials, marking, advising, pastoral care of students, and course administration. The appointee will be expected to contribute to service roles within the School. Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in an academic discipline relevant to environmental science, with preference given to candidates with a doctoral qualification. Experience in higher education teaching is essential.

• This is a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position
• Remuneration range is $103,717 - $136,470 per annum, dependent on skills and experience

Te Kura Mātai Taiao | School of Environment is a multi-disciplinary department with more than fifty academic staff. We have international leaders across a range of research and teaching fields, including Earth Sciences, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Geographic Information Science, Geography, Science in Society, and Sustainability.

The appointee would be part of a team of Professional Teaching Fellows and Senior Tutors that support our teaching programmes through course coordination, lecturing, curriculum development and design, pedagogical innovation, and student mentoring. This team takes a leadership role in the School’s teaching innovation and excellence and encourages student well-being and learning. We strive to be an inclusive and collaborative community of scholars.

You Will Bring:

• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (a doctorate is preferred).
• Experience in teaching at secondary or tertiary level, with a student-focused approach.
• A strong background in environmental science.
• Expertise in teaching and learning practices, including curriculum and assessment design.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Desirable Attributes Include:

• Demonstrated teaching innovation and use of technology to enhance learning.
• Experience sharing successful pedagogical practices with colleagues.
