About The Role:

The Director of Capital Management is responsible for overseeing the company’s strategy for managing its capital resources to support financial strength, regulatory compliance, and long-term business growth and strategic initiatives. This role involves the development and execution of capital plans, strategies, and policies to optimize capital utilization and maintain adequate capital levels under various economic and business conditions.  

What You’Ll Do:

  • Capital Planning and Forecasting: Lead and oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of the company's capital management framework, including capital planning, forecasting, and stress testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and risk appetite
  • Capital Efficiency and Optimization: Drive capital efficiency and innovation by identifying and implementing initiatives to optimize capital utilization, including the development of capital allocation strategies
  • Regulatory Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to capital management, including ORSA requirements and preparing and providing reports to regulatory bodies and rating agencies, such as the NAIC risk-based capital model and AM Best capital adequacy ratio model
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate capital-related risks, collaborating with the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function to support risk management activities, including designing and operating stress and scenario modeling tools
  • Strategic Support: Partner with internal stakeholders (Finance, Actuarial, Risk, & Program Management) to evaluate the capital implications of strategic initiatives, including M&A, new business opportunities, and asset allocation decisions
  • Financial Modeling and Analysis: Conduct complex financial modeling and analysis to support capital budgeting decisions, monitor capital performance, and provide insights to management
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Communicate capital management strategies, risk considerations, and regulatory requirements effectively to senior management, regulatory bodies, and internal and external stakeholders  

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or Actuarial Science, with a preference for a qualified actuary or with a background in applied mathematics
  • Experience 7-10 years in the Property & Casualty (P&C) industry in capital management and/or adjacent or related disciplines 
  • Knowledge of NAIC risk-based capital model and AM Best capital adequacy ratio model required
  • Experience working with rating agencies and regulatory bodies
  • Proficiency with Excel, capital modeling tools (e.g. igloo, metarisk), and possibly programming languages (e.g., R, Python, SQL) is advantageous
  • Experience with internal and factor-based models (S&P/BCAR/BSCR/Solvency II), catastrophe models, investment analysis, and PML calculations would be beneficial
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are also necessary for this role 

Nice To Have:

  • A good understanding of different accounting standards (e.g., US GAAP, US STAT) is preferred

The Tri-State Area base pay range for this role is $200,000 - $280,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several job-related factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, experience, education/training, location, business needs and market demands.
