Staff Software Engineer, Android

Overview

Tonal is looking for a passionate Staff Android Software Engineer to work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams. This individual will play a critical role in building the embedded application that powers the world’s most intelligent personal trainer. You will be given the opportunity to solve complex challenges in the creation of software for unique consumer and enterprise fitness products. What You Will Do

• Lead the development/technical direction of complex features powered by intelligence, personalization, and computer vision
• Collaborate in design & planning and participate in scrum ceremonies to ensure successful execution of product deliverables
• Identify initiatives on technology trends/continuous improvement to uplevel the team, and define/implement solutions through mentoring and training
• Help build a quality-driven engineering culture that ships products rapidly and with confidence
• Work on cross-platform engineering challenges and ensure the quality of software architecture & design of systems
• Coordinate with onshore/offshore teams to streamline the development/testing activities
• Troubleshoot/triage customer issues and perform root cause analysis to identify improvement opportunities

Who You Are

• 7+ years of software development experience
• Proficient in design principles, patterns and best practices for Android based applications
• Extensive experience in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with backend services integration
• Working knowledge of data analytics and logging tools such as Sentry, Amplitude, or OpenSearch
• Strong understanding of source control management, CI/CD workflow, and build/release processes
• High attention to detail, both in code and UI/UX with a creative approach to problem-solving
• Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization
• Experience in hardware-software integration, computer visions and AI-based applications
• Familiarity with Apple Health and/or Google Health Connect platforms
• Passion for fitness, wellness, or health-tech industries
• Location- We are open to candidates in both San Francisco, CA and Toronto, Canada
