We work collaboratively with the Victorian State Government to ensure we fulfill regulatory requirements, deliver State projects and safeguard customer data. The Victorian State Government retains sole responsibility for road access, infrastructure and safety.

About The Opportunity
The Front-End Development Lead is responsible for overseeing and guiding the front-end development efforts for web applications. This role involves hands-on development, technical leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of best-in-class front-end solutions. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in modern front-end frameworks.
The Front-End Development Lead will work closely with the Solution Architects, UI/UX designers, and Full stack developers to ensure that the front-end components are performant, secure, and aligned with overall business and technical goals.
- Technical Leadership and Architecture: oversee the development of user interfaces using modern frameworks such as React, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, Angular, and Vue.js. Champion composable architecture to ensure solutions are reusable, maintainable, and scalable, while aligning front-end strategies with broader business goals—balancing customer needs, technical feasibility, and business value.
- Hands-On Development and Performance: actively contribute to the front-end codebase, ensuring high performance, scalability, and adherence to coding standards. By implementing techniques such as lazy loading, tree shaking, and code splitting to deliver fast, efficient web applications. Focusing on product craftsmanship will help create engaging user experiences that meet both functional and technical requirements.
- Compliance & Best Practices: ensure front-end applications meet WCAG accessibility standards and follow security best practices to mitigate risks such as XSS and CSRF. By upholding coding standards and development best practices, you’ll contribute to building robust, maintainable, and high-quality front-end solutions.
- Collaboration & Team Development: collaborate closely with Solution Architects, UI/UX Designers, and Full Stack Developers to deliver cohesive and high-performing front-end components. In addition to fostering a collaborative, learning-focused team environment through mentorship and coaching of junior developers, this role will engage with internal stakeholders to understand customer needs and translate them into engaging digital experiences.
About you
7+ years of experience in front-end development, including experience and proficiency with modern front-end frameworks - React, Angular, NextJS, GraphQL and Vue.js for web development and developing composable, responsive, mobile-first, and scalable web applications.
- CI/CD Tools and Version Control: Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Git, and front-end build tools
- Testing and Optimisation: Familiarity with testing frameworks like Jest, Cypress, or Mocha for ensuring code quality, along with performance optimization practices.
- UI/UX and Performance Optimization: Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and tools for optimising front-end performance.
- Component Architecture and Reusability: Proven experience in designing and developing reusable components that adhere to a component-based architecture, ensuring consistency across applications.
- Security and Accessibility Best Practices: Deep understanding of front-end security practices, including preventing XSS, CSRF, and ensuring that applications are WCAG compliant for accessibility.
- Collaboration and Communication Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to deliver cohesive solutions, while guiding and mentoring junior developers.
- Automation and Testing: Experience with front-end testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, and React Testing Library to ensure code reliability and maintainability.
