General Overview:
This position is responsible for developing strategic plans that focus on quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with AHN’s Chief Quality Officer, the VP, Quality Informatics and Reporting, and administrative and clinical leaders for each entity within Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) enterprise. This position reports directly to AHN’s Chief Quality Officer and will work collaboratively with this leader to achieve network-wide quality ,safety, infection prevention and network regulatory and readiness goals .In addition, this position will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a quality infrastructure for AHN.
Essential Responsibilities
- Must establish credibility and trust with AHN clinical leadership, administrative leadership, medical staff, and AHN’s Board. Become the face of quality for AHN, recognized across the organization as a visionary leader and strong advocate and sponsor for quality improvement across the care continuum. Support patient experience, patient safety and quality as the top priorities of AHN.
- Evaluate all current quality and performance improvement related priorities and projects. Identify and pursue immediate opportunities to improve communication and share information to enhance and advance quality improvement across AHN’s facilities, divisions, and functions. In collaboration with the VP, Quality and Informatics and Reporting, identify and pursue opportunities to generate near-term improvement in patient experience metrics.
- Develop and implement recommendations for organizational structure, resources, and processes for a centralized quality improvement function for AHN to support care coordination and effectively drive an integrated and aligned approach to quality improvement across the entire organization.
- Oversee enterprise wide regulatory readiness team to create a culture of continuous regulatory readiness through continual proactive risk assessment and mitigation efforts. Ensure centralized policy administration is and maintain a centralized policy administration infrastructure to support the formulation, review, approval and dissemination of AHN policies and procedures.
- Lead the development of a proactive, integrated Strategic Quality and Safety Plan for AHN, engaging medical staff and clinical and administrative team members to prioritize quality initiatives, establish relevant and appropriate metrics, and assign timelines and accountabilities.
- Leads a coordinated, team-based effort to develop, monitor, assess, and improve outcomes in the safety and efficiency of inpatient and outpatient care. Develops and implements quality and process improvement strategies in areas including, but not limited to: patient safety, patient experience, accreditation, clinical risk management, infection control, preventive care and chronic disease management, care management and coordination, continuous improvement, applied data analytics, and transparent reporting.
- Serves as a clinical effectiveness educator, consultant, facilitator and coach to assist clinical and administrative leaders in moving an agenda of quality/safety to the forefront of the organization and to proactively position the organization for accountable care and values-based purchasing.
- Collaborates with the VP of Quality Informatics and Reporting to ensure Institutes and facilities have consistent quality metrics and reporting standards
- Ensures that a process is in place which allows accurate and timely collection of information that reflects the level of performance of the organization's important patient care processes.
- Keeps abreast of changing regulatory requirements/regulation, clinical/professional standards, changing customer demographics and competitive industry practices impacting quality/safety/accreditation functions, as well as organizational initiatives/changes with potential to impact current strategies, programs and resources; determines nature/scope of impact on existing activities and implements effective response/solution while maintaining acceptable service levels and work quality.
- Prepares (or oversees the preparation of), presents and interprets complex clinical information to key stakeholders, including clinical leadership, Board committees, management, and external audiences regarding outcomes measurement and other topics related to actionable quality data metrics and process improvements.
- Communicates information regarding performance improvement activities, patient safety, quality indicators, and regulatory affairs to Operations Committees, Executive Committees, AHN’s Board, and the medical staff at large, as appropriate.12. Establishes effective and influential relationships with key AHN clinical and administrative leaders and within the national quality arena to help the organization appreciate the importance of national quality initiatives, advance its own quality agenda, and increase the organization’s comparative effectiveness research.

Qualifications:
Required
- Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of Master's degree.
- 10 years of experience in senior-level Quality Leadership
- Clinician (PA, NP, RN, PharmD or other healthcare professional) with demonstrated contemporary expertise in quality, safety and performance improvement
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
- Certified Professional Patient Safety (CPPS)
