Position Title: Accounts Receivable Representative Department: Accounts Receivable Reports to: Accounts Receivable Team Lead FLSA: Non-Exempt Position Summary The Accounts Receivable Representative is responsible for managing traditional accounts receivable workflows by following up on outstanding claims with payers and providers. This includes contacting payers regarding denials, underpayments, and unresolved claims, and taking necessary actions to dispute or escalate when appropriate. The AR Representative ensures claims are processed accurately, documentation is maintained, and issues are resolved in a timely manner to support overall revenue cycle efficiency. Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Contact payers and providers regarding outstanding claims to obtain payment or resolve issues.
- Follow up on denials, underpayments, and appeals as directed by audit results or leadership.
- Take necessary actions to further dispute claims when appropriate, in alignment with payer guidelines.
- Review patient accounts to ensure all required information has been submitted.
- Maintain accurate and complete claim documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Identify and report payer denial, payment, recoupment, and out-of-network trends to leadership.
- Document detailed follow-up notes and maintain required daily/weekly/monthly tracking spreadsheets.
- Respond to and escalate additional documentation requests (ADR), audits, and post- payment reviews.
- Meet established performance metrics for productivity, quality, and timeliness.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Requirements Education Licenses/Certifications- High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years accounts receivable experience in the medical field required.
- Experience with medical terminology, payer processes, and out-of-network billing.
- Proficiency with CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional phone etiquette.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and prioritize effectively in a changing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for resolving claim issues.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and database software.
- Ability to interpret Explanations of Benefits (EOBs) and apply appropriate next steps.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability in documentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
- Generally, work in an office environment.
- Frequent and prolonged periods of computer and office equipment usage.
- Standard business hours with occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to manage stress and maintain productivity under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
- Regular interaction with team members, clients, and other stakeholders through various communication channels.
- Ability to maintain stationary position for extended periods.
- Occasionally required to move short to moderate distances.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
