Description

Whittier College’s Art & Visual Studies department is accepting applications for a tenure-track line with responsibilities split between the studio art track and the graphic design track. We seek a colleague with enthusiasm for developing an innovative and forward-thinking curriculum for students at one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country. There are ample opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations across campus, and we encourage candidates who might want to partner with our colleagues from other fields. The successful candidate will teach five courses per year, serve as an academic advisor, serve on college-wide committees, and help the department support both the graphic design track and the studio art track.

Qualifications

With a background in both painting/drawing and graphic design, animation, and/or illustration, the ideal candidate will have teaching experience, substantial professional commercial experience, a strong portfolio, and an MFA in hand.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest that addresses the following points: 1) ability to teach courses in painting/drawing 2) ability to teach courses in our graphic design track, which can include courses in graphic design, animation, web design, digital illustration, motion design, or other commercial applied arts; 3) professional commercial experience ; 4) experience in teaching to diverse learners. In addition to the letter, please also submit a CV; a statement of teaching philosophy; a professional portfolio or link to a portfolio site; a portfolio of student work or a link to a student work site; the names, titles and contact information of three references (we will only contact the references of candidates in the final round).
