The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Infrastructure Planning Engineer to join our Major and Strategic Projects Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our city by planning and designing high-quality infrastructure projects that deliver on the goals of MV2040 and create liveable, connected neighbourhoods. You will work closely with a skilled team of engineers, project managers, and designers to develop long-term capital works programs, prepare project briefs and business cases, and provide expert technical advice on infrastructure solutions across roads, drainage, open space, and the public realm.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritise, and design high-quality, timely, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
- Contribute to the development of Council’s four- and ten-year capital works program to ensure projects are scoped, prioritised, and delivered on time and within budget.
- Prepare and review project briefs, business cases, concept designs, cost estimates, and reports for Councillors and senior management.
- Undertake site inspections, community consultations, and technical investigations to address infrastructure issues and provide practical solutions.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, consultants, service authorities, and other stakeholders to achieve integrated, place-based outcomes.
- Facilitate a collaborative and integrated long term capital works plan.
- Investigate, assess and report on the capacity and demands of existing and new Council owned infrastructure assets including the impacts of new developments and/or stormwater modelling.
- Deliver high-level customer service for all general enquiries.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia) with at least five years of relevant experience and be registered as a Professional Engineer in Victoria under the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019. You bring advanced technical expertise in infrastructure planning, project management, and design development, coupled with exceptional problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills. You have proven experience preparing project briefs, business cases, and cost estimates, and can deliver multiple projects to a high standard within scope, time, and budget. A current Victorian driver’s licence is essential.
