Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre:

Seymour Whyte, in a Joint Venture with Vinci Grande Projects and Beca, have been selected by ICON water to embark on the Design and Construct upgrade of the Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre (LMWQCC), the ACT’s primary wastewater treatment facility and the largest of its kind in inland Australia. This 4-year project will modernise the plant’s waste handling system while preparing for future growth and potential updates to air emission standards. Located near central Canberra, the project will enhance and support the region’s critical infrastructure.

About The Role:

  • Compliance and Mentorship: Ensure adherence to Seymour Whyte policies, procedures, and compliance training, while mentoring site personnel to improve workplace health and safety.
  • System Implementation and Inspections: Assist in the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of safety systems, plans, and procedures, and conduct site inspections/audits with feedback and recommendations.
  • Risk Management and Advice: Identify safety management risks and opportunities, provide timely solutions, and offer relevant advice to project management on safety-related matters.
  • Incident Investigation and Rehabilitation: Conduct investigations of accidents and incidents, advise on corrective actions, and manage project-related injury rehabilitation and return-to-work issues.
  • Knowledge and Culture Leadership: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, industry standards, and technological innovations, and foster a transparent safety culture on site.

About You:

  • Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrate leadership qualities, be a passionate safety champion, and work willingly with others in a collaborative manner.
  • Qualifications and Certifications: Hold a minimum diploma in OHS, Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training, and various other relevant certifications such as Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Certification, First Aid, and Emergency Response Training.
  • Experience and Knowledge: Possess 7+ years of experience in a similar position in the Civil/Construction or relevant industry, with a high regard and understanding of safety principles.
  • Technical Skills: Have intermediate use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, along with knowledge of plant operations and various safety-related certifications.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop a good rapport with site staff, management, client representatives, and auditors, and demonstrate a can-do positive attitude.
