Job Title: Program Assistant
Department: Community Domestic Violence Advocacy Program
Reports To: Director Hours: 40 Hrs/Wk – Full Time

Position Summary:
Provides support to department by performing a variety of moderately difficult to complex duties including facilitating women’s support group meetings, research, and advocacy support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
2. Answers and routes incoming calls, or takes accurate messages.
3. Provides support work to DV advocates by performing administrative/research work as needed.
4. Responsible for communication and coordination with other departments for activities/events.
5. Assists in developing program educational and outreach materials by researching materials and making recommendations on content.
6. Gathers and submits client receipts to Sr. Administrative Assistant for Microix payments.
7. Maintains files of educational and outreach material and supplies for women’s group.
8. Researches, plans, promotes and implements special events, including facilitating women’s support groups and various cultural activities.
9. Assists in set-up and preparation of office for women’s groups meetings.
10. Assist with Shelter shopping, inventory, and meal prep. Prepares packages for client handout.
11. Researches estimates for client crisis needs, i.e. bus/train/plane tickets, motel availability, emergency repairs, etc.
12. Assists clients in locating community resources and provides referrals.
13. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled meetings.
14. Assists Community DV Advocate with crisis calls and safety intervention for women. Coordinates services with DV Advocate with required services.
15. Required to utilize Tribal vehicles for transportation of women and children to appointments and group meetings as required.
16. Performs research for special projects, such as traditional garden. Makes recommendations on planning efforts to Director.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and/or Experience
One-year certification from a college or technical school in a related field is preferred; or HS Diploma/GED and six months related experience and/or training in clerical office procedures and domestic violence training or support group work experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and knowledge with Native cultural activities required. Previous work experience in family services is preferred. Basic understanding of domestic violence is required. Intermediate computer skills in spreadsheets and word processing is required, including knowledge of graphics software programs.

Language Skills
Employee must demonstrate the ability to interact tactfully and positively with Tribal members, all levels of staff and management. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform those operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Licenses or Certificates
Must have a valid and unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License. Driver’s License must not contain any restrictions that would otherwise prevent an employee from driving a GSA vehicle.
Must submit to and be able to pass a criminal background check prior to employment and periodically throughout employment.
Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
CPR/First AID, Food Handlers Permit.
