Transportation Engineer 3 - Traffic & Lighting - PN 20056028
What You Will Do:
The ODOT District 12 Highway Management Department, which includes the Roadway Services, Maintenance Operations, and Traffic sections, has a vacancy that requires the expertise of a professional engineer to support the District Traffic Engineer. The successful candidate will provide technical support and lead junior staff and field teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects that preserve and modernize the transportation system of northeast Ohio.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise and lead the District Traffic Signal & Lighting team
- Serve as the District's electronic devices subject matter expert
- Perform field visits to check sign retroreflectivity and condition
- Create maintenance work orders for lighting, signals, pavement markings, electronic devices, and signs
- Supervise, develop, and mentor staff
- Coordinate with District maintenance crews for signage projects
- Plan, organize and schedule meetings with District Traffic and other internal staff
- Review lighting, signage, traffic signal, electronic device, and striping plans
- Submittal reviews
- Manage the systematic sign replacement program
- Assist with signal capacity and operations studies
- Manage or assist with budgets and contracts
- Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders, local agencies, and internal staff
- Respond to citizen requests
- Address lighting, signage and signal related construction issues
- Position duties will require both office and field work.

Qualifications
Licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as group or project leader providing work direction & training to engineering technicians &/or lower-level engineers or 12 mos. exp. in conducting engineering related research (i.e., conducting engineering related research only applies to staff specialist positions); if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver’s license.
-Or licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 2, 85642; if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver’s license.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
