What you will do
The Health and Safety team enables the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to support health and safety in their work environment and to meet their legislative requirements, by providing expert leadership, best practices, research and tools. This is an exciting opportunity to help build a high functioning team in a challenging and rewarding field.
As a member of this team, the successful candidate will provide client focused and integrated advice and services across the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and their District offices in the areas of health and safety. Key responsibilities of this position are:
- providing guidance as a subject matter expert on occupational health and safety standards, risk assessment methodologies, the department’s safety program, safe work practices, safety management systems, incident investigations, process improvements and various other safety initiatives;
- maintaining and promoting the health and safety program with an emphasis on compliance, critical hazard identification and risk assessments;
- developing, coordinating and delivering health and safety training; and
- liaising between WorkSafeNB and the department and advising the department as it relates to any regulatory requirements or orders.
Work Environment:
- Office location: Edmundston, Moncton, Fredericton, and Miramichi. Please indicate the locations you wish to be considered for.
- Standard hours of work: Monday – Friday.

- Frequent travel in the region is required along with periodic travel throughout the province.

Essential Qualifications:
Pay Band 4 Position:
- University degree in a related field with a minimum of four (4) years of safety-related work experience OR a two (2) year post-secondary diploma in health and safety with a minimum of six (6) years of safety-related work experience OR a one (1) year post‑secondary certificate in health and safety with a minimum of seven (7) years of safety-related work experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification.
Pay Band 3 Position:
- University degree in a related field OR a two (2) year post-secondary diploma in a related field with a minimum of two (2) years of safety-related work experience OR a one (1) year post-secondary certificate in a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of safety-related work experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Some positions require written and spoken competence in English and in French. Others will require written and spoken competence in English only. Please state your language capacity.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following assets:
- possession or in the process of possessing a certificate in a recognized Health and Safety program;
- possession or in the process of possessing a National Construction Safety Officer certificate (NCSO);
- possession or be eligible to obtain the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation as per the eligibility guidelines for the CRSP/PSAC Certification.
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Salary:
ay Band 4: $2,216.00 to $3,099.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.
Pay Band 3: $2,017.00 to $2,818.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.
