This role provides strategic and operational leadership for all benefit programs globally, with a primary focus on the U.S and other major markets. This role drives the design, governance, and delivery of health, welfare, well-being, retirement, and leave programs, ensuring competitiveness, compliance, operational efficiency, and an exceptional employee experience.

This role partners closely with internal stakeholders and external providers to ensure benefits programs are administered seamlessly, supported by robust systems and data integrity. The Senior Director plays a key role in ensuring Verisk remains competitive as an employer of choice while managing cost, risk, and compliance.

This role is a senior leader within the Total Rewards and HR team, reporting to the VP, Total Rewards.

Impact of the Role

The Senior Director of Benefits plays a critical role in ensuring Verisk offers competitive, compliant, and cost-effective benefits worldwide, with a strong focus on the U.S. The role directly influences employee engagement and well-being while maintaining fiscal discipline and operational excellence through effective systems, data integrity, and cross-functional collaboration.

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the design and delivery of North America (U.S. benefits programs, with global oversight, ensuring alignment with business goals, market practices, and employee needs.
  • Support consistency to global standards and frameworks across international markets, partnering with regional Total Rewards to ensure competitiveness,  compliance, and delivery excellence.
  • Collaborate with leaders across HR, Finance, IT, Marketing and Legal to ensure programs are compliant and operationally sound.
  • Monitor industry and regulatory trends; provide insights and recommendations to inform benefit reviews and renewals; use data and insights to shape strategy, evaluate vendors.
  • Coach and develop a high-performing benefits team focused on results, continuous improvement, and employee care – fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration. 

Program Design, Delivery and Vendor Management 

  • Oversee U.S. health, welfare, well-being, and retirement plans, ensuring operational excellence and vendor accountability.
  • Advance a holistic well-being strategy, spanning mental, physical, and financial health.
  • Govern global benefits through partnership with regional Total Rewards teams, supporting local plan design and compliance.
  • Partner with IT, HRIS, Payroll, and external vendors to optimize workflows, and ensure benefits systems, data, and funding are accurate and well-controlled.
  • Act as a fiduciary leader, in partnership with the Trusts Investment Committee
  • Lead annual benefits renewals, open enrollment, and employee communications, ensuring clarity and engagement.
  • Strengthen the employee experience by simplifying benefits navigation and communication strategies.
  • Play a lead role in M&A benefits due diligence and integration to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Serve as the escalation point for vendor issues, manage RFPs, and negotiate contracts.

Systems, Data & Process Excellence

  • Leverage HR technology (Oracle, Businessolver, other vendor platforms), in collaboration with IT, Payroll, and Finance to ensure accurate data flows, automation, and efficiency.
  • Ensure data accuracy, drive automation, and improve the employee experience through system enhancements, communication resources, and digital tools.
  • Support system testing, upgrades, and troubleshooting to ensure stability and compliance.
  • Use analytics to provide insights on utilization, cost trends, and employee feedback to shape strategy.

Financial Oversight

  • Manage benefit budgets, forecasts, and trend analysis; prepare reports for leadership and Board committees.
  • Monitor costs and utilization, recommend cost-containment strategies, and identify opportunities for efficiency.
  • Partner with Finance to align benefits accounting, accruals, and funding with financial controls and reporting.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure programs comply with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and other regulations.
  • Oversee plan filings (IRS, DOL, PBGC) and internal audit requirements.
  • Establish governance controls for vendor and internal process compliance.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field required.
  • Advanced certification (CEBS, GBA, PHR/SPHR) preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive benefits experience in benefits design, administration, and financial oversight, including U.S. plan expertise 
  • Global exposure with ability to adapt programs to local needs while maintaining enterprise alignment; experience with global operations design and administration.
  • 5+ years of people leadership in benefits or Total Rewards.
  • Strong background in U.S. health, welfare, and retirement plans; global exposure strongly preferred.
  • Experience partnering with IT, Payroll, and Finance on systems, processes, and data governance.
  • Proven ability to influence leaders and executive-level presentations.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. benefits regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Exposure to global/international benefits strategy design and implementation.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration platforms (Oracle, Workday, Businessolver, etc.).
  • Strong vendor management, negotiation, and contract management skills.
  • Financial acumen, with expertise in budgeting and cost analysis.
  • Strong change management, communication, and employee engagement skills.
  • Balance of strategic vision and operational execution.
