Successful candidates will be responsible for the drafting and design of bridge and highway maintenance, rehabilitation, and reconstruction projects of progressively increasing complexity. Position Description
Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
Transport Engineer Tech I:
- Performs basic design work
- Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps
- Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
- Works on reproduction of plans
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transport Engineer Tech II (in addition to the above):
- Develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features
- Performs intermediate design work
- Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
- Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents
Minimum Qualifications:
Transport Engineer Tech I:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Transport Engineer Tech Ii:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: 2 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions:
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
- Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
- Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
- Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels;receive information by oral communication
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
