JOB SUMMARY: Contribute to the overall success of the Transportation Department, including but not limited to bus driver and bus assistant training, federal and state compliance, and other administrative tasks. Provide initial Special Needs training, testing, and certifications. Assist with ensuring compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Colorado Department of Education (CDE) requirements. Provide classroom and on-the-job training to new and current employees. Complete and maintain safety and training records and performance evaluations. Will be required to be certified as a CPR/FA and Crisis Prevention Intervention Instructor and Child Passenger Safety Technician and sustain current certifications for all department employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. Develop, coordinate, and conduct classroom trainings, and on-the-road evaluations to include specialized equipment, wheelchairs, and employee interaction with students.

Conduct Post-Training Feedback/Evaluations.

Provide guidance to Bus Drivers, Bus Assistants, staff and other transportation employees with regards to safety aspects and standards operational duties, including but not limited to training and evaluation of drivers, assistants, mechanics, staff and other employees.

Evaluate evacuation drills, student safety programs, and student management training. Assist with maintaining federal and state compliance for those programs.

Create and maintain electronic training records that are required by federal and state programs.

Participate in coordinating, creating and performing of “Buster the Bus” school bus safety program.

Provide route coverage as required to ensure the safe transportation of students with disabilities.

Provide training to district Crossing Guards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
- No professional work experience required
- Must meet the insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self Insurance Pool
- Must successfully complete special needs training and test
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, emails
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Basic knowledge of common computer applications
- Basic knowledge of industrial and personnel safety standards and concepts
- Basic knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, FMVSS, CDE, and CDL compliance
- Intermediate organizational skills

- Ability to use handheld two-way radios
- Ability to effectively train employees and facilitate training sessions

- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands, mental functions, cognitive capacities, and work environment factors required to perform a position’s essential functions.
