Job Summary:

As an Engineer I at Kawneer, you will play a foundational role in driving innovation and operational excellence within our architectural systems and solutions. This entry-level engineering position is ideal for a motivated individual with a passion for solving complex problems and contributing to high-impact projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll apply engineering principles to analyze challenges, implement solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Perform basic structural analysis using commercial software such as MathCAD, C-Beam, PDA, SolidWorks, and other in-house tools.
  • Review, comment, and approve customer shop drawings.
  • Perform calculations on custom, job-specific applications.
  • Prepare calculation package that meets all specifications, specs, and codes for them to be professionally stamped by licensed engineer.
  • Perform application reviews for architect and customer support.
  • Work with customers, sales, and architects/contractors to provide design solutions using existing and custom products.
  • Work with estimators to provide design solutions using existing and custom products.
  • Coordinate blast application needs with outside vendors.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and installation instructions.

  • Ability to analyze technical challenges and develop practical solutions. 
  • Have strong mathematical skills required to conduct structural analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate across teams and present technical information clearly.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage documentation, and maintain structured workflows in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of supporting multiple projects simultaneously, managing time effectively, and meeting deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy in technical documentation, design specifications, and testing procedures.
  • Ability to work well in cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, and project management.

You have: (required)

  • 2-year engineering/engineering technology degree from an accredited institution with at least 1 year of work experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • OR currently pursuing or completed a 4-year engineering/engineering technology degree from an accredited institution.

Exceptional Candidates also have: (preferred)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in of any of the following disciplines preferred:  Structural Analysis; Blast Application; AutoCAD, Revit, and/ or Inventor or Fenestration Industry
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting Architectural plans and Specifications.

Work Setting & Location:

  • This position will operate in person in a professional office environment in Harrisonburg, VA.
