The Office Growth and Experiences team (OGX) is an experienced and highly passionate group at Microsoft that builds and maintains end-to-end ownership of Office across all platforms. Within OGX we are specifically looking for a data-driven, quality-obsessed, energetic and creative Software Engineer II to join our team on building mission critical next-gen big-data telemetry pipelines processing petabytes of data every day, real-time alerting, AI-driven analytic tools enabling multiple feature teams to understand Office applications performance, reliability and usage patterns and drive strategic product investments for delightful user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate AI capabilities into our solutions portfolio and apply AI-first mindset for individual productivity.
  • Design, develop, maintain and optimize scalable telemetry, monitoring and innovative data analytics solutions and big-data pipelines.
  • Analyze telemetry signals to uncover patterns, find correlations, root-cause issues, assess scenarios health to drive product improvements.
  • Collaborate with team members, cross-functional teams and geographies to define technical requirements, manage dependencies, participate in technical discussions, and develop cutting-edge high-impact solutions efficiently.
  • Follow and promote engineering best practices across the software development lifecycle toward delivering solutions in time, quality and spec.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • 2+ years industry experience in designing and developing high availability, reliability and scalability back-end services.
  • Solid proficiency in relational databases and writing SQL queries; KQL is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of HTML, XML, JSON, JavaScript/TypeScript, and RESTful services fundamentals.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills including proven experience communicating clearly and precise with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and articulating complex technical concepts effectively.
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise with big-data frameworks, ETL pipelines, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Grafana).
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure technologies (or equivalent cloud platforms) including, but not limited to Web Apps, Azure Data Explorer, Azure Data Factory and Azure Storage.
  • AI-first mindset with experience in ML/statistical methods for anomaly detection.
  • Mobile development (iOS/Android) experience using Objective-C, Swift, SwiftUI, Java, React, Kotlin or cross-platform frameworks.
  • Familiarity with telemetry platforms and experience leveraging telemetry to analyze health and usage patterns.
  • Large-Scale Software Development: Familiarity with shipping high-visibility, multi-million-user applications and working in large codebases.
  • Global Team Collaboration: Experience working closely with geographically distributed teams and ability to manage communication in different time zones.
