Description

The Back Office Float is a versatile and cross-trained Medical Assistant responsible for providing seamless coverage and support across multiple roles within the practice, including Work-Up Medical Assistant, Rooming Medical Assistant, Laboratory Specialist, and assisting in the OB Office. This role ensures continuity of care and operational efficiency by stepping into various duties as needed to support the practice’s clinical and administrative workflows.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • ·  Work-Up Medical Assistant Coverage
  • o Collect patient vital signs and medical histories.
  • o Prepare patients for their visits, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
  • · Rooming Medical Assistant Coverage
  • o Prepare exam rooms and patients for visits, ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked.
  • o Work closely with assigned physicians to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • o Fulfill physician orders, call in prescriptions, and schedule surgeries as needed.
  • · Laboratory Specialist Coverage
  • o Perform in-office lab tests and demonstrate strong phlebotomy skills.
  • o Handle and process specimens according to clinical protocols.
  • o Maintain lab equipment, supplies, and proper documentation for lab operations.
  • · OB Office Support
  • o Assist the OB Nurse with operational tasks and patient education.
  • o Provide additional support to ensure a positive and informed experience for OB patients.

ü Adapt to the needs of the practice, offering flexible support to ensure smooth operations during staff shortages or busy periods.

  • ü Maintain high standards of patient care and confidentiality in all roles.
  • ü Ensure compliance with practice policies, procedures, and safety regulations
  • ü Maintain patient privacy in compliance with HIPAA regulations and practice policies.
  • Qualifications / Valued Skills
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent qualification is required.
  • Proven ability to multitask and adapt to various roles and responsibilities.
  • Strong clinical skills, including phlebotomy and familiarity with OB/GYN procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to collaborate with staff and physicians.
  • Ability to maintain composure and deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in electronic health record systems, including EPIC, and lab management systems.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations.

Work Environment

  • Clinical office setting with frequent transitions between roles and responsibilities.
  • Close collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other staff members.
  • Periods of standing, walking, and direct patient interaction.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, move, and assist patients for extended periods.
  • Fine motor skills for precise sample collection, data entry, and clinical tasks.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to different work environments and physical requirements associated with each role.
