Your Contribution:
This role leads to the credit union’s small business lending operations, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with member needs. Responsibilities include team supervision, portfolio management, and process optimization. The position also oversees product development, budgeting, and staff mentoring. Strong underwriting experience and technical expertise are essential to drive growth and efficiency.
As a vital member of the LCCU team, your responsibilities include the following:
- Develop and manage Small Business loan products and services that meet member needs and support credit union goals.
- Ensure Small Business lending policies, procedures, and documentation comply with all federal and state regulations.
- Research, evaluate, and implement new lending products; stay current on industry trends to maintain a competitive edge.
- Lead the design and enhancement of loan origination and underwriting systems in collaboration with IT and vendors.
- Maintain and optimize workflows, user roles, and system controls to ensure efficiency and data integrity.
- Create and update procedure manuals; provide training to ensure compliance and operational consistency.
- Manage the department’s annual budget and develop reports to track performance and support strategic decisions.
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate staff performance; recommend salary changes and ensure high service standards.
- Monitor loan portfolio performance, identify risks, and ensure sound loan decisions and documentation quality.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment of lending policies and provide input on rates and products.
BANK SECRECY ACT JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be familiar with and be aware of member’s activity and report any suspicious actions by the member to the Compliance Officer.
- Must be aware of all suspicious practices and be able to recognize them.
- Report all Structured Transactions by the member to your supervisor and file a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) to submit to Compliance for review, approval, and filing.
- Responsible for successfully completing required compliance training courses (BSA/Identity Theft) on an annual basis.
- Complete the following state and federal regulation courses:
- Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA).
- Unfair, Deceptive, and Abusive Acts and Practices (UDAAP).
- Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) – Regulation B.
- Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) – Regulation V.
- Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), and North Carolina General Statutes.
Requirements
Curious about joining our LCCU team? Here’s what you’ll need to bring along:
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 + years’ experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Bilingual in Spanish is plus.
- 5+ years of experience in Small Business lending, with at least 2 years in a managerial and/or underwriting focused role.
- Requires on-site supervision of staff located in the Triangle region.
- Strong knowledge of Small Business lending, including underwriting principles, loan regulations, and credit union products and services.
- Proficient in financial analysis with the ability to interpret complex loan data and calculate interest and related figures.
- Experience with Small Business loan origination systems, underwriting tools, and intermediate-level computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Good communication, relationship management, and teamwork skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
