Purpose: The Coordinator for Community Schools and McKinney-Vento provides leadership and support in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Community Schools Program and the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program. This position ensures compliance with federal and state requirements, builds strong partnerships with families and community stakeholders, and promotes equitable access to educational opportunities for all students, particularly those experiencing homelessness.
- Education and Experience Requirements
- • Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in education or a closely related field required.
- • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education or a closely related field preferred.
- • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in a related field of human services.
- Qualifications
- • Knowledge of the Community Schools model and the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
- • Understanding of federal and state education requirements related to student support services.
- • Demonstrated leadership in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- • Ability to collaborate effectively with principals, staff, families, and external partners.
- • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and other digital tools.
- Essential Job Functions
- Community Schools
- • Develop and implement objectives, priorities, and strategies for Community Schools.
- • Monitor program evaluation processes and performance measures.
- • Collect, analyze, and report school- and network-level data to guide decision-making.
- • Provide training, workshops, and technical assistance to school staff and community partners.
- • Collaborate with principals, Community School Coordinators, and external organizations to strengthen implementation.
- • Negotiate and manage memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with community partners.
- • Conduct site visits to coach and support school-based staff.
- • Represent the Office of Title I and Community Schools at meetings, conferences, and committees.
- McKinney-Vento / Homeless Education
- • Oversee enrollment and placement of homeless students, ensuring access to all eligible educational and support services.
- • Supervise unaccompanied homeless students at registration, ensuring their rights and perspectives are respected.
- • Assist families with obtaining immunizations, medical records, and related services.
- • Ensure parents/guardians are informed of educational opportunities and their rights to participate.
- • Ensure public notices about the rights of homeless students are posted in schools and community locations.
- • Mediate enrollment disputes and resolve grievances consistent with applicable laws and agreements.
- • Prepare grants and valid data reports for MSDE and district leadership.
- • Provide consultation, technical assistance, and training for schools and community agencies.
- • Prepare applications for federal, state, and local funding related to homeless education.

- • Prepare required narrative reports and statistical data for district and state agencies.
- • Attend meetings and conferences at the local, state, and federal levels.
- • Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- • Serves in a coaching and consultative capacity within the Community Schools and McKinney-Vento programs. No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Environmental Factors & Physical Requirements
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
