Location: Nashville

Status: Full-Time

Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with availability to be flexible based on events. Some weekends may be required

Alive is seeking a visionary and strategic Senior Director of Communications & Marketing to lead our efforts in elevating brand awareness, deepening stakeholder engagement, and advancing our mission of compassionate end-of-life care. As a key member of the leadership team, this role partners closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and other executives to develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy.

Summary

The Senior Director of Communications & Marketing reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and serves on the leadership team working collaboratively with the Chief Advancement Officer and other executives to create a comprehensive communications strategy to support the organization’s mission and advance the brand. The role is responsible for creating and implementing a communications plan to include proactive positioning of the organization, aligning messaging, elevating public and stakeholder engagement, managing media relations, and overseeing social and digital media strategy, the creation of print and online publications and other outreach. As director, the position guides a small team of professionals, inspiring results, providing clear direction and creating a culture of professional excellence.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Works closely with leaders across departments to determine the organization’s overall communication priorities, develop and execute a strategic communications plan, and advise on resources to effectively position the organization as a leader in hospice care, palliative care and grief services.
  • Ensures marketing campaigns and promotions are targeted, cohesive, and impactful – elevating awareness and engagement with the organization.
  • Leads crisis communication planning and response, ensuring timely and accurate messaging.
  • Oversees internal communications to inform and engage staff and volunteers.
  • Provides editorial oversight for executive communications, speeches, presentations, grant submissions and other public-facing materials to ensure consistent, high-quality messaging.
  • Manages outside agency relationships (advertising), develops strategy and oversees content production.
  • Defines key performance indicators for the communications and marketing team.
  • Develops department budget in collaboration with Chief Advancement Officer and VP of Finance. 
  • Represents Alive as needed at public and partner events. 
  • Performs other duties as requested or required, not specifically mentioned in this job description.   
  • Collaborates with partners to develop mutually beneficial promotions that increase Alive’s community goodwill and awareness. 
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of evolving hospice, grief and palliative care philosophy, as well as and practices and pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or a related field from four-year accredited college or university required.
  • 7+ years experience in public relations, marketing, communications or related field required.
  • Experience working with social media, email marketing platforms, and web-based content management systems preferred.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
