Job Duties
Serve as the Deposit Reconciliation Accountant in General Accounting.
Monitor, analyze, reconcile, and maintain an accurate accounting of some of the University’s accounting records for daily deposits, wire transfers and suspense/liability account transactions.
Complete the monthly and fiscal year end reconciliations of suspense accounts (deposits pending distribution) and unearned/deferred revenue.
Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the University’s cash receipt transactions through monitoring and reconciling the activity of transactions posted in the State bank accounts, analyzing and monitoring feeds from Student Banner and maintaining the balance between Student Banner and Banner Finance, and processing daily deposit certificates received from the Cash & Investments Office and on-line REDI VA.
Analyze, monitor, record, and reconcile the University’s student related liabilities (Suspense Accounts/255470 and Deferred Revenue Accounts/24060XX).
Reviews daily cash receipts information received from Cash & Investments and online REDI VA EDI wire deposits and prepares the appropriate deposit certificates and/or journal entries.
Processes tuition scholarship interdepartmental (IDT) transactions.
Completes and/or assists with the completion of fiscal yearend financial reports (DOA attachments).
Maintain organized files and logs of all processed documents.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles as they apply to colleges and universities and to other governmental agencies.
Working knowledge of fiscal and accounting functions and operations.
Working experience performing reconciliations of transactions totaling in the millions, have the ability to perform detailed analysis of transactions, excellent attention to detail, and great problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to perform computations with reasonable speed and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written) with others in giving and obtaining information, in following prescribed operating instructions and in preparing routine reports from fiscal data.
Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Demonstrated experience setting priorities and managing multiple tasks.
Demonstrated working knowledge of computer systems, both mainframe and personal computers.
Demonstrated working knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Excel, Access, and Word
Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
Additional Considerations
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major studies in accounting is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge working with the Banner and Cardinal accounting systems is a plus.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of database and other software programs, i.e., Excel (advanced skills), Access, and Word.
Ability to work independently and solve problems within the scope of duties.
At least three (3) years of experience working in a fast-paced higher education business environment.
Experience reconciling and recording deposit transactions is a plus. Strong analytical/problem solving, organizational, data entry, and customer service skills.
Ability to sort, prepare/batch, file, and maintain financial records, reports and spreadsheets; process financial transactions; follow policies and procedures; collect and enter financial data; and resolve keying errors
