Department Overview:

The Neuroscience Training Program (NTP) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was established in 1971. Currently, it comprises over 100 faculty members whose research interests range from molecular neurobiology to integrative systems and computational modeling. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in research and teaching.

o Strong verbal and written communication skills

Position Summary/Job Duties:

o The NTP office student assistant position will be assisting the program in several areas: communication with prospective recruits/applicants as well as current students via inbound and outbound email and phone calls to answer basic questions they may have about our program and requirements; help them schedule advising appointments; managing our email inboxes and responding to program requests and forwarding others to specific advisers; schedule student and mentor meetings; assist with tracking trainee metrics, needs.
o The position requires someone who is self-motivated and comfortable with both independent work and collaborative work. Regular open communication with team members and supervisor is required to ensure all scheduled phone calls and emails to prospective students are completed quickly with warmth and enthusiasm.
o There will also be opportunities to help with various projects for our NTP program that will increase the effectiveness of our program efforts and the quality of our student services. Other areas of project work that you could get involved in include: updating our internal documents for student tracking, communicating with our program director, communicating with faculty from our department, and more.
o We will have a discussion of your career goals and try to find ways to incorporate projects that will help you gain transferrable skills for your future career. Several of our organizations' student workers have gone on to either enroll into graduate school, law school etc. or be hired as full-time employees in various roles upon graduation.
