Summary:

Berkeley Hall Club is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to lead the Club’s financial operations and support its long-term success. The Director of Finance oversees all aspects of the Club’s financial management, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and capital planning.

As a key member of the Executive Management Team, the Director ensures the Club's financial stability, supports major capital initiatives, maintains strong internal controls, and provides accurate and timely reporting to the COO/GM, Board, and Committees. This role requires not only technical expertise and experience but also the passion and commitment to deliver service and quality at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Financial Leadership

  • Lead core financial functions: accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Partner with the COO/GM and department leaders to develop annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide financial modeling and funding strategies for major capital projects.
  • Prepare and present timely financial statements, variance analyses, and operational outlooks to the COO/GM, Board, and Committees.
  • Drive modernization of financial systems, reporting tools, and IT platforms.

Board & Committee Relations

  • Deliver budgets and financial reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support Board and Finance Committee decision-making.
  • Present at Board, Committee, Town Hall, and Annual Meetings.

Operational & Compliance Oversight

  • Manage billing, accounts receivable, collections, bank reconciliations, and overall financial operations.
  • Ensure timely tax filings and regulatory compliance (federal, state, payroll, sales, and occupancy).
  • Oversee external audits and maintain effective internal controls.
  • Monitor trends in the general ledger, A/P, A/R, and fixed assets to identify risks and opportunities.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing finance/accounting team.
  • Conduct annual reviews and create professional development plans.
  • Promote accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.

Technology & Systems

  • Oversee IT function in partnership with outsourced vendors.
  • Manage technology upgrades, replacements, and evaluate new systems to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with and support the IT Committee to ensure alignment with Club needs and priorities.

Risk & Contract Management

  • Maintain productive relationships with banks, insurers, auditors, and contractors.
  • Manage risk exposure, insurance coverage, and claims.
  • Negotiate and oversee vendor contracts.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years of progressive financial leadership experience; prior Head of Finance experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting software.
  • Experience in private clubs, luxury hospitality, or not-for-profit (501(c)(7)) environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with club-specific systems such as Club Essentials.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with Boards and Committees.

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
  • CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
