Job Summary/Description:
Western Mass News has a unique opportunity for a Producer looking to break into the broadcast industry. This hybrid position will allow you to hone your content-producing skills while also producing award-winning newscasts. The candidate who is hired for this position will serve as our Weekend Morning News Producer and work as a Content Producer on our assignment desk during the week.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- - Produce daily newscast
- - Conceptualize newscast rundown
- - Collaborate with Executive Producer, field crews, and assignment desk to determine content of newscast
- - Write scripts
- - Research stories
- - Pitch story ideas
- - Participate in editorial meetings
- - Preview material before air
- - Work with reporters and directors on innovative production elements
- - Incorporate and coordinate breaking news
- - Work to constantly improve and evolve the look and execution of newscasts
- - Execute the show from the control room
- - Meet all show timing requirements
- For Content Producer:
- - Gather meaningful news information from various sources
- - Generate story ideas
- - Discern credible news tips
- - Schedule news crews and take in live feeds
- - Create content that is aligned with and enhances the station brand.
- - Publish content on multiple digital platforms, including mobile, online, and social networks
This person should have solid news judgment, a sound grasp of online journalism, and a sense of urgency for breaking news.
Qualifications:
- - Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience
- - Knowledge of TV News producing tools a plus (i.e., ENPS, Edius)
- - Ability to work a flexible schedule and work as a member of a team
- - Must be results-oriented
- - Ability to work in a creative, fast-paced environment
- - Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure
