Job Description

The Assistant Chief Instructor (ACI) plays a key leadership role in supporting and guiding flight instructors while ensuring student success. The ACI is responsible for managing Team Leads, assisting instructors, and driving the progress of students assigned to their teams.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about aviation, committed to safety, and proactive in showing initiative to support growth within the academy. Approximately 20–30% of weekly duties will include flight instruction, with the remaining time devoted to oversight, mentorship, and administrative responsibilities.

The ACI is also expected to foster and promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and accountability across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Fixed-Wing Flight Instructor Certificate (CFII and/or MEI)
  • Experience providing primary flight instruction at the Private, Instrument, and/or Commercial levels
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to set priorities and delegate effectively
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable speaking to groups of 30–40 people as well as working one-on-one with individuals
  • Proven problem-solving skills with a creative and solutions-focused approach

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience instructing or managing a pilot training program with international students
  • Prior management or team leadership experience
  • Experience working with English second-language students
  • Familiarity with Flight Schedule Pro software
  • Triple-rated flight instructor (CFI, CFII, MEI)
  • Minimum of 750 hours Dual Given
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Additional Information

  • Full-time salaried position, based in Hillsboro, Oregon
  • Position is fully onsite
  • May require occasional travel to other HAA campuses
  • Standard workweek is 5 days, with some flexibility for duties outside these hours
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications
