Role Summary

The Product Manager - Risk role directly supports market risk infrastructure used by both front and middle office users to make trading, portfolio construction, and risk management decisions. This role must engage and partner with risk managers, portfolio managers, business leadership, and quantitative researchers to understand the short and long term drivers of success for the platforms, develop build-ready technical requirements, understand integrations with proprietary modelling and market data infrastructure, drive roadmap prioritization across stakeholders, and coordinate delivery with engineers. Success requires deep understanding of market risk concepts, trading workflows, and strong stakeholder management skills.

Detailed Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform business/functional platform assessments – document and analyze current state operational process and related technology data flows in order to identify gaps that require strategic change in order to improve processes, controls and/or scalability.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships – partner with business stakeholders to understand their market risk needs, decision making processes, and opportunities to improve the quality, accuracy, and speed of that decision making through strategic platform enhancements
  • Develop technical requirements for enhancements – draw upon market risk knowledge and technical skills to develop detailed technical build requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for the technology teams. This includes interacting directly with quantitative analytics libraries, building lightweight functional POCs to validate methodologies, and results – then iterating with stakeholders to ensure objectives are achieved though the proposed requirements.
  • Coordinate delivery with engineers – support any refinements needed during development, then facilitate initial UAT testing, release coordination, and iteration over any issues with engineering teams to ensure smooth delivery to business without disruption to trading or decision making.
  • Engage with platform support – monitor support channels to maintain awareness of critical issues and how they may impact the product roadmap or decision decisions. Assist with platform specific support questions including application setup and user onboarding.
  • Contribute to strategic roadmap - provide input on risk platform development prioritization, overall strategic needs, and upstream dependencies that drive enterprise technology roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of product/technical PM experience supporting trading, risk or quant platforms in a buy-side environment.
  • Strong quantitative background: market risk modelling (VaR, stress tests, factor models, option greeks), curve construction and volatility surface concepts, and valuation models.
  • Data analyst level Python proficiency (pandas, numpy), able to produce compact, reproducible POCs and analyze results.
  • Familiar with SQL, data pipelines, Git, and modern agile development practices.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; experience prioritizing competing desk requests and negotiating scope.
  • Clear technical writing: requirements, runbooks, acceptance criteria and user guides.
  • Strong problem solving under time pressure and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, with 5-7 years of prior work experience
