  • Status: (1) Contract Full Time - up to March 31, 2026
  • Hourly Wage: $33.72 per hour
  • Work Mode:  Hybrid (see below for more details)
  • Location: Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives, 9 Wellington St. E., Brampton, ON
  • Hour of Work: 35 hours per week

Who We Are:

The Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) works to create exhibitions for a broad range of audiences and build collections that preserve and connect to the arts, heritage and culture of Peel Region, Ontario and Canada.

What you will do in this role:

Working with the Museum team, the Collections Assistant, Art will support the research, development and implementation of collections- and exhibitions-based projects.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Assist with the design and implementation of a storage optimization project
  • Conduct research on Found In Collections objects
  • Aid in exhibition preparation and installation / de-installation
  • Carrying out administrative taskssuch as filing and data entry
  • Other duties as assigned

What The Role Requires:

  • The ideal candidate will be a graduate of a university degree or college diploma program in museum studies, collections management, or conservation.

Must meet the Young Canada Works eligibility requirements:

  • Are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible)
  • Are legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
  • Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program
  • Are unemployed or underemployed
  • Are a college or university graduate
  • Are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program
  • Have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing 
  • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all work 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team
  • Excellent research, project planning, and organizational skills 
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft applications 
  • Familiarity with Minisis or other collections management system is an asset
  • Ability to lift and carry objects and tools up to 30 pounds 
  • Basic understanding of collections management or preventive conservation principles
  • Knowledge of mixed material collections
  • Work or volunteer experience in a public art gallery, museum, or archives
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing biases
  • Driver's license is an asset
  • First Aid certification is an asset

Work Mode & Job Location:

The primary work location is Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives in Brampton, ON. Based on the operational requirements of this role, tasks will primarily be performed in person with some ability for remote work.

Peel Region offers job-based flexible hours of work that allows employees to manage personal and professional responsibilities while at the same time ensures business operational needs and customer service expectations are achieved.

It is important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we are compliant with all regulations and policies.
