Who We Are
Nuro is a self-driving technology company on a mission to make autonomy accessible to all. Founded in 2016, Nuro is building the world’s most scalable driver, combining cutting-edge AI with automotive-grade hardware. Nuro licenses its core technology, the Nuro Driver™, to support a wide range of applications, from robotaxis and commercial fleets to personally owned vehicles. With technology proven over years of self-driving deployments, Nuro gives the automakers and mobility platforms a clear path to AVs at commercial scale, empowering a safer, richer, and more connected future.
About The Team
Our Vehicle Engineering team is made up of passionate professionals dedicated to building the future of autonomous technology. We thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment, working cross-functionally to transform engineering ideas into operational autonomous vehicles. We’re focused on creating and validating hardware systems, including sensors, compute platforms, and power management, ensuring they are robust enough for continuous operation on public roads and highways. Our goal is to leverage our technical expertise to produce reliable, cutting-edge technology that will shape the future of autonomous vehicles.
About The Role
We're seeking a Reliability Engineer to join our hardware team. In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and durability of mission-critical hardware systems for autonomous vehicles. This position combines reliability engineering with hands-on testing and failure analysis.
As a key member of the team, you'll design and execute module-level reliability test plans while providing clear input and feedback to our design teams. You will work cross-functionally to support the design, validation, and production of cutting-edge hardware system.
About The Work
- Influence reliability early in the design process by facilitating DFMEAs and participating in design reviews.
- Develop new reliability tests and specs based on field usage conditions.
- Specify reliability risk and validation plans for components and subsystems using a physics of failure approach.
- Run test/validation programs for all custom designed modules .
- Lead FA efforts on relevant reliability test and field failures for root cause identification and CAPA implementation.
- Analyze usage and environmental conditions from the field in order to improve requirement setting and testing methods.
- Utilize reliability statistics to identify reliability trends in the field and provide a clear snapshot of risk.
- Develop and maintain a meaningful set of KPIs for field reliability performance.
- Define and track critical reliability metrics (e.g., FIT rates, MTBF) for systems operating in dynamic roadway environments.
- Recommend enhancements to supplier test processes and negotiate changes to supplier test plans as necessary to address gaps, strengthen validation, and mitigate reliability risks.
- Communicate clearly reliability results & risks to product & management teams.
- Share reliability learning with hardware engineering community & develop best practices to guide future design work.
About You
- Deep background in reliability prediction, FMEA, reliability test development and execution, FRACAS, and failure analysis techniques.
- Good understanding of design of experiments theory and application.
- A basic understanding of physics of failure.
- Great collaborator and communicator. Experience and ability to drive cross-functional teams and communicate clearly.
- Demonstrated an ability to thrive in fast-paced, start-up environments.
- Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CT, X-ray, EDS, FTIR etc.
- Experience in reliability engineering and testing of automotive or mission-critical electronic hardware.
- Deep understanding of automotive environmental, mechanical, and electrical stressors on hardware.
- Familiarity with automotive reliability standards and testing methods (e.g., ISO 26262, AEC-Q100, SAE, IEC, JEDEC).
Bonus Points
- MS/PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Material Engineering, or similar background
- 5+ years working experience in robotics, automotive, or similar industry
- Passion for vehicle safety, automation, and enabling a safer transportation future.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
- Willingness to travel as needed to test tracks, vehicle integration sites, supplier locations, and manufacturing facilities.
