Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
As a reporter you will gather, write, produce, and report content on all of NBC Connecticut’s platforms, including but not limited to broadcast, streaming, and web.
Essential Functions
- Generate story ideas, research, and set up the content and interviews, produce the content in the field, write and voice the story, and present the story live as scheduled on a designated newscast.
- Perform on-air responsibilities for designated newscast. Perform fill-in anchor assignments for all news programs, as requested or required.
- Work with news producers, managers, and photographers to conceptualize, write, edit, and produce station news packages. Produce additional presentations as requested.
- Contribute regularly to website with content from daily reporting.
- Post content to social media as outlined in our digital strategy.
- Contribute story ideas for key series pieces and lead stories for daily news programs. Research and write scripts for news content. Select video and coordinate the editing and graphic design production for material that appears on-air.
- Communicate with news producers, assignment editors and managers regarding story development, progress in the field and/or breaking news stories.
- Build relationships with the community and community leaders for the purpose of developing connections to story leads.
- Establish network of contacts and sources across Connecticut.
- Follow the established guidelines set forth from our legal and standards department.
- Cooperate with and support NBC News, NewsChannel and other Owned Television Stations.
- Participate in station-sponsored events and all assigned special promotions projects.
- All other job duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in newsgathering and/or production
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
- Experience as a General Assignment Reporter
- Excellent news judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to investigate information to establish facts and determine truth
- Ability to write under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy or credibility
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to understand and break down complex issues
- Ability to multi-task while acting decisively under stress and tight deadlines.
- Strong live reporting skills are necessary. Able to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations.
- Ability to interact professionally and build relationships and sources
- Experience utilizing social media as a news gathering/reporting tool
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Team player who can also work independently and is a self-starter
- Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends) and to return to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage.
- Familiarity with social media and able to adapt to new and emerging digital platforms.
- Knowledge of Wordpress
- Strong desire to deliver news as it develops on all current and future platforms.
- A sense of urgency and desire to learn emerging technologies.

- This position is an AFTRA Represented job. Successful candidate will be required to join the AFTRA Union upon employment if not already a member.
- Required On Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite
