Job Description
We are looking for an Accounting Manager Europe to manage area of financial accounting and compliance in our European entities: Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. This role is ideal for a strategic and proactive manager, with the ability to lead accounting team and drive process improvements across multiple entities.
Accounting Manager Europe, reporting to the CFO in Canada, is responsible for overseeing accounting and tax compliance processes across European entities, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to regulations. In this role, you will oversee key financial processes, drive strategic projects, and work closely with global teams to support the company’s growth and success. We are seeking for a hands-on manager who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to lead by example. This role requires someone who is not only capable of strategic oversight but also ready to roll up their sleeves and contribute directly to operations when needed.
Accounting and Internal Controls
- Oversee and supervise accounting operations across European entities, ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements and corporate standards.
- Lead month-end closing processes at the regional level.
- Coordinates the annual statutory and corporate audit for European entities, with support of local and corporate accounting teams.
- Manage cooperation with lawyers, external advisors, banks and tax office.
- Monitor changes in accounting procedures and implementing changes when necessary.
- Lead and support special projects at the European level, contributing to strategic initiatives.
- Manage, develop, and support accounting team across European entities.
Tax Compliance
- Ensures accurate and timely completeness of all local compliance filings.
- Collaborates with the global tax team to monitor adherence to the company’s transfer pricing policies across all intercompany transactions in Europe.
- Supports in tax-related matters (e.g., VAT, CIT) across European entities.
Travel and availability requirements
- Open to travel occasionally within Averna offices in Europe.
Qualifications
Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- Experience working in a similar role at a multi-national corporation.
- Experience in managing team, with strong leadership skills and the ability to develop team members.
- Experience with local GAAPs adjustment with a foreign corporate office.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and reporting standards with proven experience in multi-country or European-level oversight (IFRS experience including POC, project accounting knowledge – an asset).
- Strong knowledge of taxes – sales tax is requirement, transfer pricing is an asset.
- Experience in managing auditors in an international environment.
- Fluency in Polish and English, additional European languages will be an asset (German, Dutch, Czech).
- Advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Experience in working with an ERP; D365 - an asset.
