Job Description

Position Purpose:

Corporate Counsel will support the Assistant General Counsel in managing litigation and disputes involving Veolia North America’s water, waste and energy solutions businesses to achieve favorable outcomes and protect the Company’s interests. Key responsibilities include supporting investigations, handling discovery, negotiating settlements, coordinating with external counsel, and collaborating with senior leadership to align litigation strategy with business goals.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in fact-gathering, strategy, and analysis, in response to lawsuits, demand letters, and other threatened legal actions.
  • Oversee all aspects of litigation, including coordinating with external counsel, managing invoicing and budgeting, and supporting discovery efforts.
  • Work proactively across various internal business units to identify and mitigate litigation risks.
  • Be professional when interacting with multiple stakeholders on complex legal matters.
  • Promote the Legal Department’s brand as a “strategic business advisor” when interacting with senior leadership on litigation matters - - think “big picture” (across the VNA footprint).
  • Support the General Counsel on critical matters as they arise within the Company.
  • Ability to adapt to an evolving regulatory and business environment.
  • Actively participate in Legal Department activities as a team player.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • At least 5 years of litigation experience at a law firm or in-house.
  • Environmental or mass tort litigation experience is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well and collaborate with other members of the Legal team.
  • Attention to detail, including while handling multiple complex matters simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with employees at all levels within the organization by virtue of professional competence, personal integrity, and personal style.
  • Work responsibly and with integrity.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Licensed member in good standing of the state bar of New Jersey or Massachusetts.

Physical Requirements:

  • The position requires approximately 10% travel since VNA conducts business in multiple states across the United States, as well as in Canada.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $170000 to 190000 Per Year.
