Battery Cell Technician

As a Cell Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the development, validation, and assembly of next-generation battery cells used in Rivian’s Battery Pack program. You will work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to execute hands-on operations, testing, and quality checks that ensure reliable, safe, and high-performance cell integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute assembly, disassembly, and preparation of lithium-ion battery cells for development and validation activities.
  • Conduct electrical, mechanical, and thermal testing following established procedures.
  • Support failure analysis by documenting issues, conducting preliminary inspections, and preparing samples for engineering review.
  • Operate lab equipment such as cyclers, environmental chambers, impedance testers, and safety systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of test conditions, results, and observations to support engineering reports.
  • Follow strict safety and quality protocols when handling high-voltage and hazardous materials.
  • Assist in building prototype cell modules and subassemblies as part of the battery development process.
  • Provide feedback to engineers on process improvements and test procedure refinements.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in laboratory, testing, or manufacturing environments involving battery cells, electronics, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion cell behavior, testing standards, and safety handling practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to follow technical instructions precisely.
  • Proficiency with lab measurement tools and data recording systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and documentation practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in cell characterization, cycling protocols, or impedance spectroscopy.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC testing standards for lithium-ion batteries.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype builds or pilot-scale manufacturing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D environment.

Salary Range: $65,000-$90,000 

The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
