IT Systems Engineer
Location: 100% Remote (US Only)
Compensation: $85,000-$95,000 + Benefits
Reports to: Director of Business Intelligence
The Information Systems Engineer plays a critical role in our IT cloud infrastructure and custom / industry applications to design, develop, maintain, and support technical infrastructure that includes network, hardware, database and/or system software components. This individual possesses deep expertise in several technical stacks. Within Microsoft, this includes Windows Server environments, Azure cloud services, Active Directory, Exchange, and Microsoft 365. With a strong foundation in both traditional and cloud-based Microsoft solutions, the Information Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure systems that support the organization's operational and strategic goals. Reports to Senior Director of Business Intelligence, Infrastructure, and Data Operations.
What You Will Do:
- Implement infrastructure solutions using Microsoft technologies, ensuring they meet business requirements and are scalable, reliable, and secure
- Helps with the deployment of new systems, upgrades, and migrations, particularly focusing on Microsoft platforms such as Windows Server, Azure, and Microsoft 365
- Conduct analysis of business problems and lead the evaluation, development, and recommendation of specific technology products and platforms to provide cost-effective solutions that meet business and technology requirements.
- Research and design best fit infrastructure, network, database, and/or security architectures. Guide configuration, debugging, and support for infrastructure and ensure all quality and change control standards are met.
- Assist with root cause investigations and provide recommendations for preventative measures.
- Proactively address gaps with existing support processes, documentation, etc. and prioritize accordingly.
- Performs routine system maintenance tasks, including monitoring system performance, conducting software updates, and ensuring data backup and recovery processes are in place
- Implements and manages security policies and procedures, including access controls, firewalls, and data encryption, to protect organizational data and comply with regulatory standards
- Manages Azure cloud services, including virtual machines, app services, and storage accounts, optimizing cloud resources for cost, performance, and security
- Administers Active Directory and manage user accounts, permissions, and access right to ensure secure and efficient access to network resources
- Provides advanced technical support, diagnosing and resolving complex issues across a range of Microsoft technologies
- Creates and maintains detailed documentation for system architectures, configurations, processes, and service records. Prepare reports on system performance, incident management, and improvement plans
- Works closely with Technology and other functional teams to understand requirements, communicate technical solutions, and provide guidance on best practices in Microsoft technologies
What You Will Bring:
- Knowledge of Windows Server and Windows desktop operating systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance
- Good understanding of Azure services such as VMs, Azure Active Directory, Azure DevOps, and other PaaS and IaaS offerings
- Expertise in Microsoft 365 applications and services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams
- Solid understanding of network architectures, protocols, and security practices specific to Microsoft environments
- Deployed Active Directory setup, administration, and group policy management
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, including database administration, tuning, and troubleshooting
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation to streamline administrative tasks and deployments
- Knowledge of monitoring tools and techniques for Microsoft systems, along with advanced troubleshooting skills
- In-depth knowledge of Linux Server and desktop operating systems, including installation, configuration and maintenance
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues and devise effective solutions
- Skill in managing projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring, to meet deadlines and objectives
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues efficiently and effectively
- Ability to work effectively in a team, collaborating with other professionals and business stakeholders
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and changing business requirements
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with the latest developments in technologies and best practices
- Ability to produce clear and comprehensive technical documentation for system configurations, procedures, and service records.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, understanding the needs of end users and stakeholders to deliver effective solutions
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years' experience in Infrastructure or Systems Engineering either by degree or direct work experience
- 3+ years' experience in Microsoft Cloud Architecture
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for device and endpoint automation.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune, SCCM, and Windows Autopilot.
- Working knowledge of Python for scripting or API interactions.
- Experience with REST APIs, especially for systems integration or reporting.
- Understanding of Windows, MacOS, and Linux endpoint configuration and management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex endpoint issues.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Team-oriented and collaborative approach to engineering and operations.
