Job Description
What will you be doing?
ALTEN UK is seeking an experienced Cost Engineer to support the delivery of complex and high-value projects within the Nuclear and Energy sectors. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate cost control, forecasting, and reporting across defined project scopes, working closely with Project Controls Managers, planners, commercial teams, and Work Package Managers.
Your Main Responsibilities Will Be:
- Maintain and update project budgets, forecasts, and commitments
- Track and validate actual costs, accruals, and variances
- Support change control processes and assess cost impacts
- Prepare monthly cost reports, dashboards, and sponsor reporting
- Collaborate with Work Package Managers to compile Monthly Project Reviews (MPRs)
- Provide analysis to support KPIs, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of cost systems, tools, and processes
- Engage proactively with stakeholders to ensure cost data integrity and alignment with schedules

Qualifications
Qualifications
Experience, Skills And Qualifications Required:
- 4–8 years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, or a related discipline
- Proven knowledge of cost control, budgeting, and change management
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power Query, and data analysis tools
- Experience in large, complex projects ideally within infrastructure, energy, or nuclear sectors
- Familiarity with ERP/project controls software (e.g., SAP, EcoSys, Primavera)
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience with NEC contracts (Option C) and associated reporting
- Knowledge of commercial processes (NEC/FIDIC)
- Formal training in cost control, estimating, or forecasting
- Progress toward professional accreditation (RICS, APM, CICES, PMI, or similar)
