Position Summary

We are seeking a High Voltage Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) Construction Manager for a 3-month contract assignment. This role will lead the planning, execution, and oversight of all construction activities for high-voltage GIS substation projects (69kV – 500kV). The position requires proven experience managing complex transmission and distribution infrastructure projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Manage on-site construction activities including civil works, foundations, erection, mechanical, electrical, and testing.
  • Ensure project execution aligns with approved schedules, budgets, and specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership during GIS assembly, installation, and commissioning.
  • Oversee sequencing, work packages, subcontractor performance, and quality control.
  • Drive strict compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, utility, and environmental standards.
  • Lead site safety meetings and enforce zero-injury safety culture.
  • Act as liaison with EPC firms, OEM suppliers, engineering teams, and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain Level 2 construction schedules (Primavera P6 or equivalent).
  • Validate invoices, change orders, and claims against earned value and contracts.
  • Support system energization, testing, and final handover activities.
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation and turnover packages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical or Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years progressive construction management experience, including 5+ years in HV GIS substation projects.
  • Direct field experience with GIS technology, OEM assembly, SF6 handling, and HV testing.
  • Demonstrated experience managing EPC contractors, subcontractors, and utility stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of NESC, IEEE, IEC, and utility standards.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 scheduling, AACE cost classifications, and QA/QC frameworks.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary construction teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and reporting abilities.
  • Ability to perform in demanding site environments with extended schedules.

Certifications (Preferred/Required)

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification.
  • SF6 Gas Handling Certification.
  • PMP, CCM, or equivalent management certification.
  • NFPA 70E training, First Aid/CPR.

Assignment Details

· Type: 3-Month Contract

· Schedule:

  • Standard: Night shifts, 5:00 PM – 3:00 AM, 5 days/week
  • Outage Period (Nov 1 – Nov 30, 2025): Extended night shifts, 5:00 PM – 5:00 AM, 12 hrs/day

Compensation

The pay range for this contract role is $69–$74 per hour. This range represents a good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual pay will depend on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and other factors permitted by law. Overtime, where applicable, will be paid at the regular hourly rate. Daily per diem of up to $235 per day.
