Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality is a HUB team that interacts regionally and globally with different business units and sites, providing services related to ecology, hygiene, safety, and quality.
EHS is divided into two main areas: Product Safety – which provides support to businesses to ensure that products comply with health and safety regulations and standards – and Site EHSQ – which provides support to work sites to operate safely.

Main Objective Of The Position:

The Semi-Senior Analyst in Dangerous Goods and Secure Transport plays a key role in ensuring regulatory compliance and operational efficiency in the handling of items and samples. The primary responsibility is to guarantee the timely and safe release of materials, in alignment with internal procedures and current regulations. The role includes technical evaluation and approval of packaging, proactive management of orders blocked due to dangerous goods controls, and accurate classification of materials through the analysis of physicochemical properties, composition, and relevant toxicological studies.

Main Tasks:

  • Accurately classify dangerous materials in accordance with relevant regulations and standards, following BASF’s established procedures and the four-eyes principle. This involves analyzing the properties, characteristics, and technical data of substances to determine the appropriate classification codes and labeling requirements.
  • This role is responsible to review and release packed samples and commercial article intended to be transported. During the release process, the article setup (e.g., filling quantity, packaging, dangerous goods classification) must be evaluated against the relevant dangerous goods regulation to determine if it can be released for each mode of transport including air, ocean, domestic, etc.
  • Monitoring daily requests and Clearing DG and Packaging (PMDO) Order Blocks to facilitate shipments to customers.
  • Ensure proper and timely packaging processing based on regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Providing Information on Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods Regulations, Classification, packaging suitability, Marking and Labelling on strategic business unit issues.
  • All roles involve supporting activity tracking, assisting with Management of Change (MoC) processes, analyzing KPIs, and contributing to the development and execution of improvement initiatives. 

Minimum Education and Qualification Requirements for the Position:  

  • Education: Advanced university student or graduate in Chemistry, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Science, or another technical discipline.
  • Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience in EHS, regulatory areas or product compliance.
  • Languages: Advanced proficiency in English and intermediate knowledge of Portuguese (will be tested) 
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with national and international regulations governing the transport of dangerous goods, including IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, IMDG Code, ADR, and other relevant guidelines is considered an asset. Experience with SAP is highly valuable
  • Soft Skills: 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Customer-focused, with the ability to quickly understand client needs and meet their expectations.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and proactive. Quick learner who works independently.
