As a Staff Security Engineer, your role is mission-critical, and you will be central to shaping the core communication infrastructure of the NHS. You will directly enable faster, safer, and more accessible patient care. This role is a strategic and influential position within the information security function, working with the Security Engineering Lead to set the technical vision and drive the security roadmap at an organisational level. You will be responsible for defining and scaling the strategy for Accurx's core information security programs and embedding security into the very fabric of the organisation to protect Accurx, its employees, its users, and their patients.

The Unique Challenges You'll Solve…

This isn't just about managing vulnerabilities or responding to security incidents. You'll be:

  • Driving cultural change and advocacy: You will drive cultural change within engineering organisations by successfully building security champion programs and gaining buy-in from product teams for security initiatives.
  • Balancing strategy with execution: You'll define and execute long-term security roadmaps that balance technical debt, feature delivery, and risk reduction.
  • Leading complex security architecture: You will lead architectural design reviews and threat models across cloud-based and on-premise estates while influencing other teams' roadmaps to ensure security is a primary consideration in their long-term planning.
  • Shaping a new standard of service for the NHS: You'll collaborate with our Head of Service Management to build a single, streamlined approach to service reporting, meeting the rigorous standards and requirements of our valued NHS customers.
  • Empowering users through automation and AI: You will lead the implementation of new tooling and leverage AI to build a more efficient, self-service model, empowering users to solve their own problems.

  • Significant Senior Experience: You have significant experience in a senior or lead security role with a track record of company-wide impact.
  • Application Security Expertise: You possess expert-level, holistic knowledge of application security concepts, tooling, and modern threats.
  • Strategic Mindset: You have a strategic mindset and can define and execute long-term security roadmaps.
  • Cloud and Enterprise Security Knowledge: You have an advanced understanding of cloud technology (ideally Azure) and enterprise security concepts.
  • Cultural Leadership: You have proven experience driving cultural change within engineering organizations.
  • Exceptional Communication: You are an exceptional communicator, capable of mentoring other engineers and articulating complex security risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Thought Leadership: You are a recognised authority and thought leader in security , providing guidance across applications, cloud, and enterprise domains.
