An Administrative Assistant position is available with the City of Fort Worth Emergency Management & Communications Department Emergency Communication Center Division. Emergency Management & Communications provides the coordination of disaster and emergency response efforts, 911 access, and collaboration among first responders and public safety partners.

The EM&C Department plays a vital role in safeguarding the community by:

  • Coordinating disaster and emergency response efforts, 911 access, and collaboration among first responders and public safety partners,
  • Leading public preparedness initiatives and maintaining communication systems—such as emergency alerts and real-time information sharing—to keep the public informed and protected,
  • Supporting recovery and mitigation efforts to minimize future risks, restore essential services, and strengthen community resilience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in Business Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field
  • Four (4) years of clerical and administrative experience in human resources, accounts payable or purchasing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) or more years of experience in managing complex administrative tasks, such as timekeeping, payroll, employee records management, purchasing, procurement and contract management.

The Administrative Assistant job responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate key administrative functions—including timekeeping, payroll, budgeting, human resources, procurement, and contract administration—to ensure operational excellence within the Emergency Management & Communications Department.
  • Support departmental leadership by providing support, financial insight, and administrative coordination that enhances service delivery to the public.
  • Advance EM&C’s mission to support the safety and well-being of the community by ensuring that internal operations are efficient, well-resourced, and aligned with the department's emergency response and communications goals.
  • Providing support for fiscal operations, including budget development and expenditure monitoring, to ensure responsible stewardship of public resources.
  • Facilitate support functions, such as timekeeping, payroll, and employee records management, to support a resilient workforce.
  • Coordinating procurement workflows, facilitating purchasing and procurement for supplies and materials, ensuring vendor compliance with established purchasing regulations and policy, and coordinating travel and training arrangements.
  • Responding to requests for information, including inquiries from the leadership team, employees, and the public.
  • Contributing to organizational effectiveness by identifying opportunities for process improvement, supporting department-wide initiatives, and enhancing interdepartmental and interagency collaboration.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work-Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.  Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position:  Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
